  • Free is my favourite word :)

(Sustainable is good too, but hey, I'm only human!)

No:) If you go for the sustainable option you get it free! But you have to not buy the unstainable one....

It doesn't say anywhere that you only get the free fish if you ask for but don't buy one of the big 5 - only that you have to ask for it. This is the direct quote from Sainsbury's own website:

"When a customer asks for one of the Big Five species (cod, haddock, tuna, salmon and prawns) at the fish counter on ‘Switch the Fish Day’ they can try a lesser known alternative for free*."

    scrolled down to find asterisk:

"*Whilst stocks last – offer limited to one free portion of lemon sole, mussels, Cornish sardines, coley fillets or Loch trout fillets per customer, per transaction, subject to availability. Free portion of fish must be scanned at the checkout for the discount to be applied"

I read it the same as you, you pay for your cod and get one portion of sustainable free.

The fact they say you get "one portion of sustainable" reinforces that for me, after all if you were buying tuna for a family of five, one portion of trout would not go far as a substitute.

So that it will go off and the fish died for nothing! NICE.

Cod stocks are running low but who cares if you can get a freebie?

SelFISH or what, (don't excuse the pun)

I asked this morning and got told "you buy one of the 5 and get a sample".
They seemed to know all about it :)

Excuse me, how exactly will it go off if I said dump it in a fridge, when you go home isnt that exactly where you will put it, In the fridge, makes me laugh when people like you attempt to get on your high horse for no reason Lmao, I often see items from the fish counter in the fridges Lmao, would love if you came back and attempted to explain away your silly accusations LOL.

    I'm waiting.....

If they find it in a fridge after a customer has handled it they can't just put it back on the fresh fish counter. Would you like a piece of fish that a customer has walked round the store and potentially contaminated (there are bad people in the world)? They'll have to dump it if they find it in a fridge.

That was not something i was aware of, if that person had explained it like that, rather than attempting to belittle me with huge letters highlighting a sentence, i would have held my hands up, thank you for your explanation, but i have seen in my store, that they put such items in the reduced food section.

Also they stated that it would go off, rather than saying it will be dumped.

  • My sister used to work in Asda, and oh yes they do put stuff back in any state, they even tried to get her to put back cheese that became liquified, but she refused! It doesn't even matter half the time if it had been out of the fridge or not

Totally gross, but not as gross as the 6 weeks i worked whilst at uni in Maccy D's - you eat a bit of lube every time you have a milkshake!
