No rain at all in April - and finally it rains on 8th May!

i'm with south east water and i'm pretty sure they never lifted last year's hosepipe ban.0

I live near Ashford in Kent too - but i'm certain the hosepie ban was lifted a while back? I hope so because i watered in some new grass seed just this weekend! I would never knowingly break a ban because i think water is a precious resource and should be treated a such. Are you sure the hosepipe ban still applies?
I'm just glad i bought the hardy drought resistant type of seed.
Digging the soil over was very hard going as it's so dry and hard.
Next year i'll be planting Cactii!
You're right! I just did search and found this:

Funny how they make a big noise when it is put in place, but not when it is lifted - it had totally passed me by.
No doubt it will be back in force very soon though.
I think I am going to have to get myself a whole row of water butts - it it ever actually rains to fill them!0 -

They have.
My original link refers to the environment agency. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk...erres/1014767/
There are currently no hosepipe bans in force and Mid Kent Water was the last to lift a hosepipe ban which was on 28th February 2007.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

We had a little rain in April but nothing substantial.
They say its the warmest April on record, well if it is its certainly not where I am, its been cold most of the time, and windy and several days of sea fret0 -
No rain indeed but i did order my new shed yesterday!
Will be a lovely place to put the hose and sprinkler in long term storage.Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0 -
Well lots of rain here next week according to reports. You need rain but why does it have to come everytime you book time off0

Trickle hoses attached to a water butt are perfectly legal whether there is a hosepipe ban in place or not.
Using a hose of any description, attached to unmodified mains water, with a hosepipe ban in place, is illegal.
You could save washing up water etc, put it in a water butt and water the garden with it through a hosepipe, with a hosepipe ban in place, and this would be legal.
When a hosepipe ban is in place, you can't use a hosepipe to water the garden/wash the car, etc, with potable water. You can do as you please once the water has been used for washing/cooking/cleaning/bathing etc, and water your garden with it however you want.0 -
We're getting deeply parched earth here in east Scotland with large cracks - almost reminiscent of my time in Africa. Rain is needed soon.
What irritates me is newsreaders and even weather telecasters who as if bright hot sunny is always `good' and rain is `bad' - I assume they don't have gardens and no concern for public water supply.0 -
I got back from holiday back to South Wales to find my 200 litre water butt full up. :j It was empty when I left.0
