What would it take to get out of an O2 contract?

nothing to do with an alternative to Broadband, 700Mb a month is not a lot for people who use a smartphone and aren't at home on wifi all day, the tariff is very limited and this should have been pointed out, it seems like they are making these rules up as they go as they couldn't give me anything in writing about it.
I have bought her the S3 Mini, my Nexus 4 is too big for her.
Not a lot? Seriously? I use to use my HTC Desire HD quite a bit on 3G and I barely use to get through 500mb - even when I tethered my phone to the laptop. Just avoid streaming media and that'll keep the usage down0 -
You should ask that, because it was important to your requirements, if the sales people sat there telling you what is not included, you would still be on the phone now
Can you show the link to the bolt on up to 5gb ? I am an O2 customer but when I just looked 100mb,500mb or 1gb is what can be purchased on smaller tariffs.
Perhaps you could re-contact O2 and see if you can migrate very earlier to a tariff and handset that more suits your requirements, there may still be a penalty, all be it somewhat reduced.ringo_24601 wrote: »Not a lot? no, because it says there's none available right now, but when there is there's just 100Mb available
yes, seriously, I use about 1.5Gb a month with my phone, though currently with no broadband I've used 16Gb in the past 33 days.
This is why I asked you to post the link, I have never noticed a 5gb add on, only ever 100mb, 500mb or 1gb.
Another option for you is say VM (if you have coverage) the Big Talk in effect it costs nothing as the £10 credit remains.0 -

Wouldn't the better idea be to phone O2 and ask to be put on a more expensive (but suitable) contract?0 -

ringo - the OP (or rather his wife) didn't expect the usage to be that high I believe. But their circumstances have changed (now without broadband) so they need more data than the original contract made provision for.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

She's now thoroughly fed up with O2 and doesn't want to stay with them for the next 20 months knowing they don't want to help her, is there any way out of this without paying a fortune?
OP I don't think there is any way of getting out of this, no. When you sign a 24 month contract, you should make yourself aware of what the terms are. Once you have signed, you are bound in - unless the other side fails to perform their side of the contract.
Now it would seem that O2 are offering what is contracted. The fact that your requirements are significantly different now to your requirements back in Nov isn't really their fault.
I don't think the short delay in returning your phone from repair would be considered a material breach of contract either. Generally speaking if a business quotes you a number of days for something, you should assume 'working days'. Bearing in mind this phone has to be sent by mail/courier services it wouls sem unreasonable to assume that weekends would be included in the time to return the phone to you.
If yu believe you are going to continue to need huge amounts of data, O2 will allow your wife to step up to a higher tariff.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
Contracts are usually best avoided.
You can get 400mb, 100 minutes, and 100 texts for free each month with Ovivo (with the option of buying additional bundles if you need them).
You can get great PAYG phones for less than £100 these days.
Much cheaper (and more flexible) than paying 24*16.5 - nearly £400:eek:0
