Hailo - lets you catch a proper black cab with a meter from anywhere in London, tells you how far away it is, drivers name and phone number etc, pay automatically by credit/debit card and only pay the meter price.

Having been fleeced by minicabs before when a black cab was quicker, more convenient and knew the roads, I never use anything but Hailo now when I'm in London. They even email you a receipt for if you are expensing back. Love it. Saves me time and stress, which is money in my book ;o)

    Free Apps:
    iPlayer

    "Google Now" cards
It's not a separate app but part of Android on 2.2 and above, basically it gives you usefull things based on your searches and emails, like if you schedule a meeting in google calander with a location address Google Now will pop up a "card" with map information and travel times. Also if you use public transport a lot it will tell you the nearest bus stop train station and times.

  • It's got to be 'filmon'. I am living in Cyprus & expats here are losing channels from their satellite dishes.
Last week I got the local telecoms company to put in an adsl line. The result is fantastic - UK tv (min 4mb broadband).
Admittedly thats using an ipad but the app is available for android too.:j
  • More for phones than tablets, but Amazon and EBay apps.. If I'm out shopping (especially Christmas shopping!) and see something I like, I can compare prices online and see if it's a good deal or not

Was just about to post about filmon, its pretty good (only just come across it, saw it mentioned on hukd), theres also an app called crackle which has free films on, not all are free though.

Also just noticed this on hukd here

Veetle - Once opened click on Categories. Then click on Classic on the bottom of the page. Then click on Entertainment. Hundreds of channels playing all kinds of movies.

Viki - Once opened scroll along the top to Movies. For most people change the Country to United States/United Kingdom for that Countries Movies. They also have movies from around the world if thats your thing. Mostly older movies here.

MovieTube - Once opened choose United States as your country. Lots of new movies.
