I'd be interested in hearing what are other MSE's favourite money saving apps for android tablet, I've seen lots of recommendations on various threads but it would be handy to have them all in one place.
My favourite apps (all free, most already well known) are:
Taptu: because it lets you create your own streams with a combination of feeds (Sometimes adding feeds can be a pain, it looks to me like the search function has filters that stops you find some sites).
Flipboard: (Pulse is also quite good). Search facility is less restricted.
OverDrive: helps you find free ebooks, it can even let you download books from your local library.
Kobo app: easy to add free books once you have downloaded them, just by clicking import content, and it searches your hard drive/memory card for books.
TV players: I like the usual suspects, BBC, ITV (could not get channel 4 to work on tablet at all, and found no app for android, pity).
SKYPE, pretty obvious.
There's also an app called What's App, but I've not tried it myself
TuneIn and Winamp:free radio, two of several apps available
DropBox: well known file-sharing site, you can access your files online, and even share your public folder with others.

Try this : UK Bus Times Live: Bus Scout
Does the same job - And it's free0 -
Not so useful on a tablet but on a phone the SayNoTo0870 and SayNoTo0870 Call Interceptor apps work very well together. Dial an expensive number and the call interceptor will present you with a list of alternatives.
On a tablet just install the main app and at least you will have it available to look stuff up while by your landline phone.0 -
I travel to London regularly for meetings and find the buses are often better than the tube especially in the summer when it can get unbearably hot underground.
I use Live London Bus Tracker it tells you when the next bus is due and more importantly where the stops are. It's also great for telling you when to get off if it's the first time you've made a particular journey or can't remember. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
I'm going to add one app that is proving extremely useful, the calibre companion, it lets you download your calibre library and you can read books with any ereaders on your device. It's handy mainly because I download most of my books from Kindle, but I read them as epub using overdrive.
It would be perfect if it worked the other way as well, uploading books already on your device onto calibre, but it's great nevertheless.0
