Allotment Wars

It appears from other posts that it may be a small minority who cause some minimal problem, yes guess what allotments are no different to any other walk if life! Of course some ill informed people watching that programme could chose to believe that the problems occur across the board. What is your experience of allotment life by the way?0

None Thank Goodness
And from your replies, I stand by the thinking that you will fit in very well.
I haven't seen many posters jumping on here saying that allotments are NOT like the show.0 -
You obviously have a very negative outlook on life I don't think that allotment life would suit you anyway.0

Quite the opposite. I have a very positive out look on life.
One that I would not want ruined by little men whose life's are so sad they need to act like Hitler over a small patch of ground.
And as for measuring carrots :rotfl: Get a Life springs to mind.0 -
No doubt the programme last night only served to cement your prejudices about people who grow vegetables for competition then, or is it little men who you dislike so much?0

I have no problem with small men.
Lets just live our life's.
We are different people. You like measuring veg and I like eating it.0 -
I think that someone who has gone out of their way to cultivate a plot of land, sow and tend the seeds, and actually grow their own produce has a right to be proud of their labours, and if that means going so far as to measure a carrot then who am I to complain about it?0

But it is the measures they go to !
Having a hidden Plot X What the !**!
Sabotaging other people plots.
Locking some poor man in.
Having to sit up all night to see who is breaking in your shed !
You are not telling me that the BBC had trouble hunting these people out.0 -
I have an allotment, on the largest allotment site in my town. It's a shared plot, 2/3 is mine.
Out of the 120+ plots on our site, I would say 20% are held by people such as those illustrated in the programme. The other 80% are normal people, who want to grow their own fruit / veg / chickens and aren't able to do so at home. This 20% are reducing year on year through "natural wastage" or infirmity.
Yes, we've had vandalism - all sites will at some time, some more than others. We have 8ft locked gates on our site to keep non-members out.
Yes, there are arguments between plot-holders, but that's life.
Yes, some people allow their plots to become all weed, but they are being evicted and replaced.
Maybe when those who DO have allotments read & post, we'll get a more balanced thread.0 -

There are 8 posters on this thread. 4(or half) of them have or have had plots. Of those 4, 3 have said that they have had problems.
Not sure what you owning 2/3 of the site has to do with it.
Or maybe it has everything to do with it.0
