you made a mistake there. You should never buy a car without a v5, i suppose buying from the dealer gives you some legal protection in that you will have the invoice stating that they sold you the car so you will not be out of pocket/risk of buying stolen car.

call dvla and see if they are willing to help. Maybe you can fax them the receipt/invoice to let them know that you have bought the vehicle and the new owner.

taxing is going to be a nightmare, if parking attendents come round they will give you a fine.

So keep it off the public road, if you dont have a drive you can problably rent someone's drive/garage temporarily.

You could order one using a V62 then you will be able to tax the vehicle.

either way you could give them a call and see what they say :)

In Northern Ireland you'll need a V34 form:
    http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/index/do-it-online/motoring-online/apply-for-a-vehicle-registration-certificate-v5c-ni-form-v34-ni.htm

Really something the dealer should be sorting - you'll be charged a fee to get a v5 in your name if the old v5 doesn't turn up.

never take advice from someone whose trying to sell you stuff or has vested interest in you making a transaction with him/her.

A few years ago I bought some gym equipment from a fitness company. I paid up front for stock that they didn't even have - that was being shipped from China. The guy sold me the stuff telling me that it will be here in a matter of days. I paid and ordered and the few days ended up being months. I rang up weekly to enquire about what is going on. He kept telling me that it will be in any day soon. As time went on he became more elusive, left me on hold for ages before he would take my call and answered very rudely. Stopped being friendly and answered with "What?, "What do you want?" a few times.

Eventually I got my stuff and I think we were mutually glad to see the back of each other. Salesman will tell you anything to make a sale. I treat salesman like I do parking attendants. I assume they just look at you with the word IDIOT written across your forehead so everything they say I take with a pinch of salt.

Oi! I used to be one of them and trust me, not all are bad! Sure, some will play tricks to get a ticket issued (yes I've known a few) but there are good honest decent people doing the job too.

As for the rest of your advice though, like Sgt Pepper, spot on. Salesmen will say anything to get money from you and yeah aren't they lovely? So friendly, helpful, anything to help steer you towards your wonderful new purchase.. and as soon as you're out the door parted from your cash you're treated like dirt when a problem arises.

But when you have to deal with the sort of IDIOT who drives into a box junction without a way out. What can you expect?
