Traffic Cameras or Stealth Tax

I am getting frustrated by all the Traffic cameras that seem to be appearing everywere.I recently went through a Red light inadvertantly at a junction close to me were a new camera has been placed. It used to be a left hand filter lane,i was at the lights stationary the pedestrian crossing lights changed opposite and i thought the lights had gone green so pulled off.The camera went off and this resulted in me getting a £60 fine and three points.I have no problem paying the fine for my mistake i accept that but getting three points that stay on my license for FOUR YEARS!!!! is a Joke. Also speed cameras seem to be strategically placed to catch as many people out as possible.I have nine points on my license now the other two incidents were from new cameras with no warning signs in villages and i was doing the very fast speed of 35!!!!!!!!miles an hour in both cases. One more incident and i will loose my license.I am now paranoid when driving my car incase i get another ticket. My point is that it seems to me these camers are not for making the roads safer but to raise money for the local authorities and government a new stealth tax for the already harassed motorist paying high fuel and car tax prices.Or maybe they just want to get as many people off the road as possible to alleviate the horrendas traffic problems we have to endure everyday which the government seems to have no answer too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive got no problem with them making money when the law has been broken, anything to slow the blighters down. Getting out of my house is a lottery, although its a 50 mph limit its rare to find everyone doing this, lots of burned rubber trying to join the traffic. Mother-in-law been waiting for two days to get out.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Although there are arguments for the idea that cameras are only there to make money...its really easy to foil their dastardly plans...dont speed!
Sorry but if the limit is 30mph then 35mph is speeding.
That said, I do think the warning signs could have the speed limit on them, the only time I think speeding is not the drivers fault is when you go through a weird bit of road where the limit changes every mile or so.
Before anyone asks, I have never been caught speeding!Err, I'll get back to you about the funny signature0 -
If people don't like getting caught don't speed, its as simply as that, you have a choice.
I personnel think the law isn't tough enough on speeders. Although primilarily speeding is a safety issue not just for pedestrians but other road users, I do not think some people realise the anti social aspects of speeding.
One of the main complaints on noise from residents is caused by traffic, yes I get this myself from ignorant poistol heads, who don't like a !!!!!! about residents who have to put up with this.
Drivers complain about speed humps, tough, then if people didnt speed we wouldnt need them, the vast majority of people do speed, its a fact. I recent survey by the RAC, may drivers admitted speeding.
I am also a driver of some 20 years, I dont speed and adhere to the law, if people dont want fining then dont speed.
There is a big difference between 30-35 the choice for the vicitim, is life or death, remember that when you go down a residential street, because you may have that on your consuqence for the rest of your life.

Very close to me there is a road which narrows from a dual carraigeway to a single lane road, subsequently the speed limit drops from 60 to 30, there has been a speed camera placed about 20 yards past the 30 limit sign, and i have lost count of the amount of drivers who have been caught out by this and had to slam on the brakes to avoid getting a fine, I have complained about this camera and was told 'there is a sign so you have enough warning' well going at 60 you have about 1/2 a second warning.
Its an accident waiting to happen

I'm ALL FOR speed cameras - life in my village can be a nightmare with anti-social little @rseholes using the main street as a race track. Can I have some cameras up here please!?"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

I'd accept speed cameras etc more easily IF they applied to all drivers. At present, drivers in foreign-plate cars, or unregistered cars escape their fines - no attempt is made to locate and enforce the fines.
Bad driving is far worse than speeding - there should be more police on the streets instead of armies of pen-pushers dealing with fixed penalty notices from speed cameras.
Very close to us, there were two accidents, both fatal. The result was a speed camera. That sounds a good idea, yes? No! both accidents were caused by speed, but a speed camera would not have prevented the accident - one was a teenage joyrider in a stolen car at 3am in the morning - a speed camera would hardly of interested him! The second was a drunken driver (something like 3 times over the limit) at around 2am in the morning - he was probably not sober enough to have noticed the speed camera. Tell me how a speed camera would have saved these lives?
By the way, likewise I have never been fined for speeding, so my rant isn't biased by that.0
