Ethernet splitter

Those splitters are a messy way to do it, plus for the extra £6 may as well just use a switch.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0

Those things only work for doubling up two ethernet connections down a single cable. At the other end of the cable you need to split it out back into two cables again and plug both into a switch or router.
No use for the OP, but great if you don't fancy running a second ethernet cable through your attic.0 -

.
good point actually.. that could have been why we did it. I'm going back about ten years so it could have been lack of floor ports rather than lack of switch ports.0 -
Lack of floor ports is distressingly common in so many office buildings. A short sighted installation ordered by someone doing it on the cheap and not considering any future expansion.
You either use those splitter things, or you end up with loads of horrible Netgear unmanaged 5 port switches sitting under people's desks waiting to be kicked about by someone, at which point they take out an entire row of desks.
Last time we had an office rearrangement I went on a cull of those bloody things and made sure everyone was directly connected to a proper floor port that went to a gigabit switch. I was able to remove all but one of them, and that one is just driving the printers and wireless access point which I don't care about so much.
That said, much as I hate those little 5 port switches, they are exactly what the OP needs. If it wasn't for the fact that they are company property I would gladly post one to the OP just to be rid of the things.0 -
Cheers Lum lol......I got one coming off Ebay for £6.70 including delivery so it's a cheap enough fix,so long as it works0
