Query using Google Maps as Sat Nav on iPhone.

Hi
Not used this service.

So my first question, is it possible to use Google Maps as Sat. Nav. to get from A to B?

If so, how is this service charged, does it come out of my monthly data allowance? Sounds expensive, especially on a long journey.

What happens if the phone is not near a transmitter and looses connection, does it stop providing directions?

Many thanks for your answers here plus any info that maybe useful.

G

I don't have iPhone, but I am sure it is possible.

It uses mobile data that does come from your data allowance if you have it.

It can stop if you lose connection for a long time. With correct settings it pre-caches big pieces of the route in advance.

  • The answer is yes to all your questions you can use it it does charge your allowance and it will stop working if it doesnt have enough data stored and downloaded to route you

Google Maps works quite well as a satnav, but without an unlimited or large data allowance not the best idea.

    G

If it loses signal long enough to clear the cache it will stop giving directions.

There are better options, I have been using NavFree UK & ROI for a while and it is very good, it also has the maps as part of the app so no data is required for navigation.
