    has he considered an iPad?

No I have one and he uses it now and again but wants something with a keyboard. I've sent him the links that you all suggested so he's having a look but he's a bit like me and doesn't really know what he's looking for so we'll see what he thinks.
  • i would like to point out that you can buy a seperate keyboard for the Ipad. either apples own, or logitech do a wireless one.

    Just a thought.

I reckon a netbook has too small a screen to be anything useful, and what's left for them to do can be better done on a tablet.

However, the smaller screen "ultraportable" laptops are viable - I have an ageing ThinkPad X61, and it is usable. The newer models (I'm not sure what the number after the "X" is now up to) are really good machines.
