If he goes for Win 8 I've narrowed it down to 2...... Any thoughts on which is better?

I just want it ordered so I can actually do something with my day lol
  • They'll all do the job he wants them to do. Best bet would be to see them all in store to see which he'd like best (eg may hate the keyboard on one or the other) and has the best build quality. They have differing HDD sizes but if he isn't planning to put all is films on there etc that may not be an issue.

Don't waste money on unnecessary items.
No need to buy the latest i3 processor if you don't need it.

Netbook: MSI Wind U180 £133.98. Upgrade to 2GB RAM for less than a tenner.

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite C850-101 £203.98 Upgrade to 6GB RAM for another £15.

Product as new. So £220 will cover all bases.

Ignore his old fashioned idea of purchasing 'locally'. It's not as if PC World and Currys are any more local than buying from Argos online.

I'd be quite happy to buy from Argos Online and I agree something a lot simpler would probably do but he thinks he'd prefer Win 8, how can you upgrade to 6GB RAM by the way?

Why does he think that he would prefer Windows 8? :)

He can cough up £25 for the upgrade and use it later, once Windows 8 has it's first Service Pack.

For the upgrade, just buy a 4GB RAM module and slide it in via the memory hatch. Takes less than five minutes.

Don't waste his money on the latest craze.

Note: the 'memory hatch' varies in size, shape and location and is not always accessible to the end-user.

Whilst many manufacturers leave their service manuals on the 'net for all to see, some are rather tight-lipped on the issue of which screws to remove.

I assume that he was referring to the Toshiba going from 2GB RAM to 6GB RAM.

As far as I am aware they're pretty good about that sort of thing... but their website is down for 'maintenance' so I can't double-check. :o
