Car insurance as named driver

Hiya,
Has anyone got any ideas how I can save some money on car insurance? I have been named driver on the car insurance for my car on my husbands policy for about 9 years plus an additional 2 yrs for his car prior to that. Now that we have separated i tried to get insurance in my own name but am being quoted silly amounts like £940 instead of the £240 it should be with the NCD.
I feel like the insurance companies are completely robbing me blind and making it an impossible thing for me to obtain insurance cover on my own. How am I supposed to afford silly money like that when I have to feed two kids?
Any help much appreciated!!!
Thanks!

Ususaly adding an additional person to the policy can sometimes help! The ye old trick of adding a parent, or somebody with a good amount of experiance can help bring it down.
You could try altering your answers, IE some jobs pay a slightly higher premium compared to others, but in a lot of cases you can select the cheaper one for your role at work.
Dont just assume fully comp is the most expensive. In the last few years, fully comp usualy works out cheaper.
You could also try a broker as well rather than rining up direct. A broker will work just like a "compare the market" type websites, and work for you to locate a suitable policy.
There are some companies which will take into consideration your experiance of driving, again a broker will be the best to hunt down a suitable policy as they will know the products available.
What ever you do though, please ensure that all questions are answered correctly and that you do not "front" (IE have somebody with more experiance as the main driver, and you as a secondary driver) as you could invalidate your insurance0 -
Try direct line. They give you no claims discount when you've been on someone elses policy. They used to anyway. Give them a call next and see what they can do.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

If you were a named driver on your husbands policy you will not have earned a no claims bonus, hence the large premium.
Some companies only started giving named drivers no claims in the last couple of years.0 -
I got my first car about 7 years ago before that I had only been named driver on the family car. Direct line gave me full no claim discount and my insurance was only a few hundred pound I think it's always around £300.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

Direct Line do still credit you with any time you've done as a named driver - I know that as I was on the phone to them last week and they said they could do that for my son. What they may need though is some kind of proof that you were named on your husband's policy but there CS people seemed really helpful when I rang them (did take a while to answer the phone but once they did they're great!)0
