I have a Good Car But Bad Garage and Mechanics

Please Help!!!

I bought a Hyundai Coupe 1.6 over the xmas period and it really a nice car. I been doing long miles on the car as i travel alot. so i decided to have it service , as the last service was in june 2012. So i was introduced to a local garage, went there for full service and was charge 280£ . At first i didnt mind, but last weekend my inlaw toke the car out and then for some reason the clutch got burnt . so i toke the car to this same garage and i was charge 480£ to change the clutch in this car. I told my mates and they said the man is only using my car to save for his new wife. i decided i wont go there again and i told the garage man he is a rip off. so last week i went to kwitfit to get new tyres as i use 18dish chrome, and i was charge 200£ for each. i only bought 2 and so far i am spending more than i bargain for, to own a small and simple car. at the moment the engine sound has changed after i got back from liverpool last week, i was thinking maybe cos of the salts and snow on the road. but its still sounding funny but drives fine. I am wondering if someone can help me with a nice garage around greenwich, lewisham, surrounding . cos kwitfit is too expensive and i dont want to take the car back to my previous mechanic.

18" chrome wheels don't belong on a "small and simple car". £200 a tyre sounds about in the right ballpark to me from somewhere like KF. Perhaps switch to 14 or 15" wheels and you'll instantly quarter your tyre spend?

£200 a corner on 18s sounds about right, providing you got a decent make of tyre. It'd be a bit expensive for Linglongs or Barum or whatever bottom of the barrel brand Kwik Fit are pushing these days.

Also clutch replacements are a pain in the !!!! job, especially on FWD cars, and aren't cheap. I've not seen the engine bay in the Hyundai Coupe but I suspect it's probably a bit cramped and difficult to work on.

I don't think it's for you to decide what wheels do or don't belong on another person's car to be honest. :)
  • the Coupe, 1.6 Alpha engine is a sweet bit of kit.

    Not sure if serious......

Your in law burns out your clutch and you blame the garage?
Fastest car on earth is one you don't own.

I don't understand... your inlaw burnt out your clutch so the garage repaired it... how is he a rip off?

And if you thought the cost of the 2 tyres was high why didn't you shop around? Most places will do online or phone quotes on consumables like tyres, brakes etc.

So within a couple of weeks you've had to replace the clutch,2 tyres and now the engine's making an odd noise and yet you describe it as a good car :)

Your mates are idiots. I'd be asking the in-law for a contribution to the clutch that burned out but I suspect that you're a bit of a boy racer and have killed it yourself along with the tyres doing burnouts to impress your mates.

I've got a similar friend who kills cars because he still thinks he's 18 and drives like a knob. He bought a car off me which was meticulously maintained, never let me down in 5 years and he killed it in a month.
