Gas boiler make...?

We're going to have our boiler replaced - the options are (apparently) Worcester (Bosch group) or a Glow-worm. Any comments on these or others...By the way we've decided not to go with a combi...

If that's your choice go with Worcester. Vaillant and Alpha are also good choices, the latter usually being the cheapest of all three makes.0 -

OK thanks - any particular reason? I must admit I tend to agree other bosch appliances seem very reliable IME.

Worcester Bosch and Vailant are the top brands in boilers. Can be referred to as Rolls Royce of boilers.
I have just replaced my old system with a Glow-Worm condensing boiler. Glow-worm are part of the Vailant group and they are a reliable company.
With either the Vailant or Worcester Bosch you are paying a lot of money and are expensive to repair if something does go wrong which can be said with most boilers. However, I had a budget to work to as I was doing up my whole house so it was a Glow-worm as it was within my budget and I have been told that some components are similar to what is found in a Vailant.
If you got a large budget go for Worcester Bosch or Vailant else I personally can recommend a Glow-Worm.0 -
Why a combi? What happens when the boiler breaks down, how will you heat hot water? Don't think it won't, I have known all makes/types of boilers to fail at sometime. With no stored hot water, or alternative hot water source, it is doubly inconvenient if you do have a breakdown.
What size family are you, what type of property. Myself, I would not consider a combi under any circumstances.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Simply because they are known to be reliable in the trade.
Personally i have a vaillant but i would equally be happy with a Worcester
and would definately consider Alpha if on a budget0 -

No advice on brands I'm afraid, my sister has been offered the same choices and is unsure too.
I think your decision for not having a combi is a good one;) We had one at our last property and had lots of trouble with it, we were also very unhappy with the flow rate. Each to their own, I know some people love them.;)0 -
Worcester and Valiant are good models. I loved my new boiler we had fitted last March, it was such a good boiler and that was a valiant condensing boiler.0
