Gailey, don't know how old your family is, but I read here last week somewhere the 'budget holder' purchased sufficient snacks, treats, boxes of juice to last till the next shop. Family announcement (and that includes to your OH, who is required to set a good example to the family!) to tell them that when it's gone, it's gone and they will have to wait until the next shopping day.
I don't have mine at home any more, but with a daughter who has a 'first to the fridge' policy as far as the 'nice' yogurts are concerned and the 'luxury' cereals (i.e, not the ones she buys on her student budget!) then I wouldn't be afraid to try this out![SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Hi Gailey have you thought of perhaps at the beginning of the month when you 'live like kings' maybe bulking out some recipes and freezing extra portions for meals in the last week before payday? I freeze bolognaise, lasagne, curry, hm french bread pizzas, pasta sauces, you wont find your making double but just adding a few extra bits, portion controlling then freezing half you wont really notice it. Also I stock up on a few bits for freezer surprise when skint- Tes** value fish fingers 65p for 10 as recently found out they use 100% pollack fish fillet in them with some beans/veg mash/wedges (any left over mash can be frozen too) xJanuary Grocery Challenge £203.50/£200

I do something similar although I shop on a four or six weekly basis, I buy what we need for the period and if the crisps/chocolate/peanuts/nice things run out before the rest of the proper food then they don't get replaced.
I can't be doing with worrying about snacks - they go in the cupboard, buy a specific stash for each person if necessary and when it's gone it's gone.
I'd also suggest that you need to preload your shopping budget so that rather than spending unnecessary amounts on things like cereal from the garage, you are buying what you need at the start of the month, that way you may avoid some of the problems and will instil the concept of making food last.
I know you're anti Tesco etc., but it's cheaper to do a big Tesco shop and get all that you need rather than end up buying from the garage, corner shop etc.Piglet

Hi Gailey,
I sometimes squeeze sausages out of their skins and mix with stuffing mix, bit of hot water and some grated apple (could leave that out) to make burgers. Might your OH be OK with that?0
