Thank you so much guys for kind words and ideas.

Like I say we really not jurassic bad as oh calls it.

    we have had for lunch

oh and the 2kids-sausages, beans and chips

I had leftover crackers from xmas with cheese and smoked salmon.

I have pack mince defrosted in freezer which plan to do spag bol enough for 5of us to eat tonight and some child portions for tommorow.

We have 2readymeals-1 hubby can eat tommorow.
other ones is in freezer which he can take to work for lunch thur.

eldest is on school dinners all week as paid cheque today get paid friday.

we still have half bag oven chips left
    1white loaf bread.

breckfasts for kids wiil be cereal and slice of toast with butter or jam.
    Porridge too.
Middle dd need packed lunch tommorow we have 1 apple left and can do cheese sandwich and couple bourbans.

we out of coffee-but found £2 so off to sainsburys soon see if can get value coffee and some fruit, possible value fromage frais .

    we still have in freezer

    1pack smoked salmon
    7lots of sausages.
frozen broccoli/cauli so going to attempt a cauli cheese bake whcih I like so do kids but not hubby.

Tommorow for family tea make pizza as have bread flour and yeast.

Which the just leaves thur tea which will involve

    tuna, smoked salmon or sausages.
    onion soup maybe.

try and rustle up some desserts as have packs jelly x2, custard and icecream. shame run out golden syrup or would do some twinks.

We really not got that long.

spent 34 i lidls just on milk so have 16pints milk, 1load bread, 1bag oven chips and burbans which will ration.

I thourght this thread just might be useful for anyone whos short and needs to help prioriterise.

Obviously depends whats in store cupboard.

I have quite a bit herbs, spices, flour, passatta ect so not too bad.

I have put order in for small veg box to deliver tommorow but god knows if they will as unrelaible last few weeks depends on weather.

I used to meal plan around recipies but these days I meal plan week by week on whats reduced, on offer ect.

So when i buy something uusally have idea of what will make with it, hope that makes sense.

I hope to trim grocery budget back a bit this year.,

If I was just feeding me it be so easy I love veggies.

    but family throw spanner.

They like their snacks and treats.

which is why oh feels deprived we have stuff just nothing he fancies.

Week after payday we eat like kings then weeks after each week gets worse.

We decided to try shop weekly as dont think monthly works well for us but we do monthly to save on time.

I do online shops but they take me ages.

We both agreed that want to heat healthier this year.
we bored of meals as stuck in food rut.
less processed stuff but quality and eat less.

I think we have fallen into patterns of eating buying same old things.

I need to bake more as already cook lot from scratch.

Hoping veggie garden and foraging be better this year.

one thing i cant live without is coffee I hate tea.

will make kids just drink water or milk-wont do them any harm.

They have some raisens for snacks.

    might attempt a fruit loaf.

The trick for next shop will be buying stuff and cutting back but not so much they feel deprived.

wean them off the usual treats and replace with others.

plus find monthly variable as every 3months or so i stock up on herbs, spces, pasta ect.

Im sure I can do better with more planning and shopping around.

Anyone else have the whole eek before pay day ohh hat shall we eat.

The worst one i tried was lentil and paxo burgers few years back.
Im used to being creative. Love reading about £7 meal plans here or when someone posts and lists what they have then everyone makes suggestions its fab place for ideas.

Right best go do the jellies.

When I've hardly any cash there are only very few things I'd HAVE to make sure I had in

Milk, bread, loo roll (although OH's mum and dad always have tons of this if we were really desperate) bananas and value from frais (kids have packed lunches at school)

As a bit of a hoarder and over-buyer I don't think I'd be in the situation where my cupboards and freezer are empty

I also generally have a club card voucher/nectar points and a penny jar on the go if I was REALLY desperate

In saying that, in Asda last week I got 'nice' biscuits and pattersons shortbread for 10p a pack but that was just luck as its not their normal price

    I'd get:

Bread flour - toast for breakfast, bread for lunches
Split peas - make a dip to go with bread, cheap, nutritious
Pasta - with seasonal veg & dried beans
Bananas - fairly cheap, good for snacking on

Personally I couldn't put up with a family moaning over what I was either buying or feeding them! As a kid we had no say in the family budget either. I wouldn't let an OH do the shopping if they came back with processed foods, most men aren't that good at shopping anyway!

On the 'snacks and treats' front (when you have a bit more money to spare). Have you thought about making popcorn? A little of the corn goes an awfully long way and it's pretty cheap. You can mix it with a bit of grated cheese to up the nutritional value. It's fun to make as well.

Gailey... you could make the kids milk jellies...you'd be getting a bit of milk down them, but cunningly disguised as a pudding. My nan use to make it for me, I loved it!!! Break the jelly up and stick it in a bowl with a tiny slosh of water and microwave for a few seconds until melted, or pour over a little boiling water and stir until dissolved, top up to the quantity - is it still 1 pint? - with cold milk, stir well and leave to set.

Have you thought of taking the sausages out of their skins and making meatballs? Add herbs, onion if you have it.
