It will be weird seeing big business supporting the Labour party at the expense of the other lot :)

Cameron was challenged by Milliband at PMQs as to whether or not he would vote yes. Cameron had a stinging put down in response - stating (sorry I'm paraphrasing here) that it was typical of Labour deafeatism to think the answer was no, as that suggests that they expect to lose the negotiations.

If he is successful he and the cabinet probably will vote yes. The question is how many backbenchers won't. As the cabinet will vote yes, I would imagine it would still receive big business support and that those supporters will be petitioning the government in terms of what they want in the negotiations - far more successfully no doubt than SMEs and individuals whose voices are less loud.

Of course, all of this is contingent on who wins the next election. This could be quite a clever ploy by the Conservatives, as people want a debate and there are many Labour supporters who want a referendum.

I agree it is nothing to do with what is best for our country and everything to do with what is (perceived to be) good for Cameron's neck ;)

  • As a smaller business exporting outside the EU is costly, even Switzerland and Norway are too complicated. Most of our sales are in the Euro-zone, where we have seen much stronger growth than in the UK. With just over a million in sales no one will care if we cease to exist once the UK leaves the EU, while large employers like GSK, Rolls Royce Aero-Engines etc will get help from the government.

Of course people want to stay in the EU. With the UK leaving the, British 'university tuition fee refugees' will no longer get a free education in Belgium, the Nethelands, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden,... “Call me Dave” is screwing you: You shall take on debt! You shall pay interest!
