BEWARE - i did the same thing got a railcard cheaper via an offer and didnt read the t & cs my son was 4. I began buying him a ticket - one of the ticket guys refused to sell me a ticket as ds was under 5 (he is also small for his age!) and said that by buying him a ticket i was breaking the t & c's and therefore committing fraud... la la la..... same as if you buy for a non exisitent child (i never did that but this is what he said at the time!)

.... i went to the ticket machine purchased my tickets and didnt look back.... but it did make me worry about paying for a child under 5!

It only happened the once though! now he is 8 and we still have a railcard as for us it works out much cheaper (was shocked at the fare to london when didnt have ds with me! and so couldnt use the card).

Thank you all for your advice, very much appreciate your kindness :kisses3:

I understand what has been said with regards to paying for DD's ticket.
The problem I'm having is that with her Cerebral Palsy, she's having a soft tissue operation on her groin at the end of June. Her hips are being set wide open in plaster for 4 weeks. Which means I wont be able to get her in her wheelchair/buggy etc....so with the expiry date being end of July, I really won't get the use out of this ticket that someone else may do out of it.

The ticket has now been passed on...but thanks again for all your advice!
Hope you all get lots of good use out of your tickets too!!

this is on the railcard web site under t &c 'Don't forget children under five travel free and each adult may take up to two 'under fives' with them. If the only child in the Family Railcard group is aged less than five years of age, the Railcard holder may purchase a discounted ticket for that child in order that the accompanying adult(s) can qualify for the discount on their tickets'
  • Hi, i,ve got one of these cards too and probably wont use. If anyone would like it could you pm me and i,ll send it to you.

    Thanks,

OP included T&C, one of which was:

    3. Minimum group size is 1 adult (named cardholder) & 1 child aged 5-15

Therefore how can you pass on card to another person (unless they have the same name as yourself)?

Because the names are not on the cards on delivery - you write your own name on it.

    Hello Everyone!

Has anyone got one of these free Railcards!
I missed the offer and we are travelling from Barnsley to Sevenoaks May Day weekend. The saving if I use the card is £25. The only issue that might arise is that the card normally has to have a named adult on it!

Anyway let me know! and thanks in advance.
