No doubt that if they do miss it (ie. due to long security lines), they will refuse to take any personal responsibility and demand a refund from Monarch/ask Gatwick to pay for a new flight and pay for a 4* hotel while they wait.

On a side note, why don't Monarch offer on-line check in for people with hand luggage only and who don't reserve seats? I can't think of an airline which doesn't apart from Monarch. Surely, as a low cost airline Monarch should be offering it (or like Ryanair/Wizzair forcing it) as standard to save on the costs of hiring check-in staff.

That's rather unnecessary... What have I possibly said that could give that impression.

If the security lines were long enough to make me miss the flight then yes, I'd blame the lack of security personnel, but having not allowed the minimum amount of time recommended by Monarch I certainly wouldn't be demanding anything from them (or Gatwick) - let alone a 4* hotel...

'Cause they like to your weigh bag Louisdf.
Could they not do that at the boarding gate like Ryanair/Wizzair etc.?

Not only does it inconvenience people who only have hand luggage, but the people who need to go to a check-in desk (ie. passengers with luggage/sports equipment.) get delayed waiting behind passengers with hand luggage who could check-in online and proceed to security.

    Get with the times, Monarch.

Nothing to do with the fact that several flights are due to take off at the same time, leading to inevitable congestion?

Maybe you could try this http://travel.aol.co.uk/2012/10/09/passengers-fake-disabilities-jump-airport-queues/

If all the checkpoints were open then yes, it wouldn't be their fault. I checked the number of departures and it didn't seem that congested for a busy airport to me but I just wanted to see if there was a consensus as to whether the security queues were likely to be in the realms of a few minutes or over an hour at that time of day.

I don't see why you have to be so snotty about it...

It's probably because of the regular number of threads you see on here complaining about missing flights for whatever reason, usually because they didn't allow enough time and some more on top .

see Murphy's Law : "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong".

I can see why they'd question whether I would do that, but they didn't have to make it such an unprovoked rant. Especially when they continued after I said I wouldn't blame the airline!

I'm sure they didn't mean to be as accusatory as they sound though.

I'm flying from Heathrow late Thursday

You do know Ryanair don't fly from Heathrow ;)
  • Have to say I'm a big 'get there early and don't worry about it fan'.
I'm flying from Heathrow late Thursday (I hope :snow_laug) but I'll set off on Wednesday and Mrs Bob the saver and I will spent the night at her mother's place in London
I'll then leave quite early, well I don't want to get in the way of mother in laws's cooking (all that eye of newt and toe of frog puts me off my lunch), get to Heathrow about 4 hours before the alleged departure time, get rid of my little bag ASAP and head for a bar.
At least I won't be troubling these forums with tales of woe because I missed my flight.

My advice to set off very early vindicated again as I got to the bus stop for a 25 mile trip to meet a coach only to find no buses running within 20 radius because of the snow. Plan B went into action and I'm back on track - well the M4.
