use of wireless on Smartphones to avoid high bills
Options
Hi
I will be replacing my basic mobile in the summer when the contract comes to an end. I have an iPod touch which i have just bought and so have been trying wireless access. I am deciding whether to get a PAYG Smartphone and try to use wireless wherever possible or to go for a contract so I have more internet access.
I'd like to know whether PAYG actually works with a Smartphone or just turns out to be too expensive.

PAYG does work with smartphones.
Whether it's more expensive or not depends on your needs.
Check Giffgaff and Ovivo. Both are PAYG.0 -
I have a son with an iphone, another with a Samsung and a daughter with a Blackberry, all on £10 giffgaff goodybag plus £3 for the Blackberry service. Husband is on Tesco mobile PAYG with Blackbery add on. None of them have ever gone over their inclusive data allowance.
So yes, PAYG does work with a smatphoneAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I would consider in future trying to get everyone to be on the same network if possible - you can usually get free calls and texts between everyone on the same network. Consider families do text/ring each other that will help to save money if you don't have to use an allowance or credit to do so.0

If you can afford to buy your smartphone then either PAYG or SIM only will most likely be cheaper.
Giffgaff on PAYG is reasonable for "modest use" but it really depends on how many calls you make.
For some phones, contract deals beat what you could get by buying your chosen phone and SIM only or PAYG.

With Ovivo you get 100 minutes, 100 texts and 400mb free each month.
Blackberry services are an extra £5 per month.0
