I looked at the Argos website to purchase a lawnmower from Argos. The price is stated as £109.99 but it is not available for home delivery - you can only collect from an Argos store.
So you can only book online to collect the item from your nearest store and you get given a reference number.
I traveled 8 miles to the store to collect the 109.99 lawnmower, and I was asked to pay 129.99. An extra £20.
The manager of the store said the 109.99 was the online price - but you can't actually buy it online - you can only book to collect from a store - and the store charges you 129.99.
It's a scam because you can't buy the product at the advertised price, and then you don't find out what the price is until you are in the store to collect your order.
The store manager said it was legal for them to advertise a product price eventhough you can't buy it for that price, as it is a way for Argos to get people into the store.
It's a scam.

dam, the cheack of the manager, how can s/he sleep at nite, wont be going there when i need my grass cutting!! you should write to head office in argos and complain, say you want it at the advertised price on their website, you never know, you might get a cheque or voucher in the post, noithing ventured blar de blar!!

It says on screen when you reserve that the price may change once you get to store.
From their T&Cs
a) For products reserved online for store pick up or any other reservation service the price you pay is the price in store on the day of collection.

However, the shop could be in trouble for advertising something at a price that it won't honour. I believe supermarkets have been prosecuted when items scan for prices that don't match those on the shelves.
I know that sounds a little contradictory but I believe it's correct.0 -
so the best thing to do in this case is to argue the product was not sold at the advertised priceTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0

I was in Staples a few months back and queried the price of the item i was buying. The web site price was £4 cheaper. the manager at the store said no problem you can have the item for the same price as the web site. Couldn't Argos have done the same really seeing as they are bound to making a decent profit anyway0

I'm not aware that Argos do online only prices, the web page is wrong and there is no 'save £20' offer or Argos haven't corrected the prices in store - complain to Argos.
The T&C allows for the price altering between reserving and picking it up but in this case the price has not altered - it is still £109.990 -
This is obviously a very deliberate policy because this is in the small print AFTER you have reserved the item at the advertised price to collect from your local store:
"This reservation relates to the item(s) only, not the price. The item(s) have not been paid for and the price you pay is the price valid in store when the goods are collected."
They are:
* Advertising products online at a price that you can't actually buy them at.
* Only when you get to the store to collect your product do you find out what the actual product price is.
* Wasting peoples time and money traveling to the store.

The manager claimed that they say it's out of stock to buy on the website, so you have no option than to collect it from a store. She said it was a way to get people into the store.
Online, you can even see how many of every product is in stock at your local store, but they omit to display whether the price will be different when you collect your order.
If they can do real-time online stock level reports from every store, then it would be very easy for them to display the price they are being sold at in the store - but they don't. Why? because they are advertising products at a price that you can't actually buy them at.0 -
