    1) Read the information issued with claim forms, notifications and posters in benefits offices.

    2) Take note of it.

    3) Make some enquiries rather than assumptions.

    Discover that some benefits may be extended in certain situations but where that doesn't cover your circumstances, apply the knowledge gained that assistance is still available for many other circumstances and act accordingly so that even where JSA stops for a week, one can do what is necessary to resurrect it for the following week and apply for Housing Benefit based on income rather than JSA.

    All the necessary information is available.

    Trouble is people don't read it and then complain because they failed to inform themselves about it.
