(this might be better in the rant section!)
Being unemployed, i thought helping out on the recent PCC election day would be good for some easy cash, and something to add to my cv..
As what I received was above the allowed earnings, 1 week JSA deducted. fair enough, still worked out c.£40 up (so far..)
Now informed by council that because of the JSA stoppage, i do not qualify for HB / Ctax for that week..
So overall, £60 down.
Making work pay eh, Mr Duncan Smith? Yeah, right..

If you take your payslips to the council they will recalculate your benefit and you get it back again. You only have a very short period of time to do this so get onto council today and tell them you will bring the payslip down ASAP.brightonman123 wrote: »(this might be better in the rant section!)

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

If you do this again its your responsibility to contact the council and make sure your HB and CTB continues. They get an automatic notification from DWP if benefit is not in payment so they would assume you've got a full time job or signed off."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

This is why the system is such a mess. When I was out of work back in the early 1990's, all you did if you did a days works was to fill-in a blue form & they would deduct 1 days benefits from you. Roll-on to 2013 & the whole thing has gone totally t1ts-up.Never Knowingly Understood.

Actually now you mention it this is what should have happened to the OP assuming they worked less than 16 hours."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
I think the OP means benefit was stopped for one week because earnings for the 1 day worked were more than the weekly amount of JSA.sammyjammy wrote: »Actually now you mention it this is what should have happened to the OP assuming they worked less than 16 hours.0 -
Hmmm, probably is AND you have to contact the housing separately, many people don't realise thisBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

And this is what puts people off doing the odd days work here and there as it can cause so much disruption and needless anxiety about ending up worse off.Blackpool_Saver wrote: »Hmmm, probably is AND you have to contact the housing separately, many people don't realise this
I'm not a fan of Universal Credit but this is one example where it will work better since housing costs will be paid alongside payments for being unemployed so it would be one benefit being reduced rather than two benefits being stopped and meaning the person has to approach the HB office. The person would still have to contact the local council regarding a rebate of council tax for that week though since the new Council Tax Support scheme will not be part of Universal Credit.0 -

Oh for goodness sake WHY NOT??? that really annoys me, I thought it was going to be all in and simple for people, that's just daft
the more I think about this the more it annoys me, so we are still going to have hassle with HB, even after all this new thing is brought in, I can see it now, people will be still scared incase it messes up their rent helpBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
council tax is not rent.
universal credit will be one payment for rent, esa, jsa, income support, wtc, ctc. 0
