Halfords Screenwash blocks filter

Ahhh now we are getting somewhere, new car breaks and dealer blames screenwash. I don't think the screenwash system has filters (I stand to be corrected though) A kettle of warm/hottish water will flush the cr*p out.
I suppose the dealer wants you to pay for 'new' filters?
Read the thread about the Pergeot (sp) and Sainburys fuel.
The (Suzuki) dealers did not charge me for "cleaning the filter" - but it was a pain in the neck, having only one working washer jet for 2 weeks whilst they made me an appointment ....
I can understand a filter on the bottle itself - but in my case, only one side failed - so can't be a bottle filter blockage.
The use of hot water may only work - when there is a trickle getting through.
I have also discovered that VW have used this argument for a friend with a similar problem and charged him for new washer jets !!
Apparently, because he failed to use genuine VW screenwash - his warrantly was nul and void !!0 -
hot water is ok, but to really shift it, a couple of denture tabs in with the warm water works a lot better. Tesco's own cost about 20p a tube, so its not expensive.0

I always used to use it (before I found the wonders of Lidl) and found the green stuff did not mix with some other brands and formed "snot" in the jets. I used to fix it by disconnecting the pipe from the bottle, attaching a foot pump with a football inflator and blowing it out ...... shot out like a bullet. Full fix was by removing the bottle and flushing it out and only using the Halfords. Luckily the bottle was in a convenient easy place unlike most modern card though.
Just about all washer systems have a filter and non return valve which can be prone to blocking.
VW, and several others, have fan jets which require special fluid as stated in their documentation. Lidl screen wash is approved for fan jets.0 -

But what does "denture tab" do to the car bodywork ?0 -
Use screenwash supplied by the dealer. It will be more expensive, but you houldn't have further problems. If you do then the dealer should fix under warranty.
Recent BMWs are known to have a similar problem.0 -

Mine doesn't?
Still, usually buy at the Co-op as its much cheaper and no Lidl close by... but I have run a whole bottle of Halfords through with no problems?0 -
Bodywork is fine, if you dont flush it through and replace, your screen wash is a little chalky, but that is it.
Its a well known fix i found on the BMW and other forums when I had a similar problem with my own washer bottles being gunked up.0 -
I have experienced a blockage in the filter once or twice during the time I've owned the car.
Nothing serious, simply rectified by removing the pump and cleaning it off.0
