  • They excuse was that i had been awarded domestic emergancy for not being able to sign but there is no such thing for failing to apply. Its stupid really. The mp emailed back and he is contacting my local jobcentre on my behalf to raise the issues so fingers crossed. In the meantime they wont apply hardship for 2 weejs and i cant gey a crisis loan because of my sanction so have no income but thankfully a very supportive family :)

Your child tax credits and child benefit should still be paid. Even so, it is a disgustingly spurious policy.
  • Yes i still have my child tax credit and child benefit but because of no payment since 4th jan my bank is in overdraft my direct debits have bounced and the shortfall i have to make up for my rent next week is not available. Guess the whole thing has a knock on effect. Hopefully the appeal goes through..... I will then be back dated to 9th jan.

It appears that you have been given a higher level sanction, which is 13 weeks for the first 'failure'.

I hope your appeal is successful, but if not you need to be very careful, your next higher level sanction (second failure) will be for 26 weeks, a third failure will net you a 156 week (three years) sanction. Hopefully your son won't need to go to hospital again any time soon.

I dont understand why ive been given a sanction in the first place seems i have all the hospital notes to back up my dates but even so i dont understand why i got a higher sanction as ive never done nothing wrong before

Hi, I cannot offer any advice but I would just like to wish you well.

I am sickened:mad: by the way you have been treated, I cannot believe how draconian the sanctions are, I cannot believe how insensitive the DWP are too.
If any government mandarins happen to read this forum SHAME ON YOU!
I hope your little one is ok and keep your chin up:A

According to the DWP, you did not apply for a job which you were directed to by a Jobcentre adviser. Obviously this is deemed to be worthy of a higher level sanction by the DWP, the fact that you have complied until now is irrelevant.

Depending on your 'crime', different levels of sanction apply. Missing a work focussed interview is deemed to be a lower level crime, whereas failing to apply for or leaving a job voluntarily is a high level crime, and sanctions are applied accordingly.
  • Maybe the DWP need to realise that kids come first??

They do not though. I do not agree with what happened but basically

    1. You were excused signing on because of a domestic emergency.
    2. However that does not excuse you from making applications to which you are directed.

How did they give you the direction? text?

  • It was printed off when i signed on that day and my son was rushed to A&E that day?? He was there for 8 days.... All my stuff for jobcentre was at hone and applying for a job was the last thing on my mind.... I applied when it came back avsilable a few weeks later. I was not avoiding it. Ive worked all my life and was made redundant in Aug 2012. I want nothing more than to be given a job because this system is corrupt
