Pregnancy - Boys vs Girls

When I had my boys, both pregnancies were a doddle. I had a bit of sciatica with the eldest as he spent a few weeks "back to back", but that eased off when he turned back the right way. Apart from that, I had no problems and was fit and active right through till birth. I even painted the kitchen ceiling the day before I gave birth to the eldest!
I'm having a girl this time and it's been problem after problem after problem. The morning sickness was bad in the first trimester. I've developed SPD which has caused mobility problems. I'm anaemic and I'm on iron tablets. I've got badly swollen feet and legs, so the only shoes I can wear are some cheap flip flops. The skin on my swollen legs and feet has gone all horrible. It's currently bright red, very itchy and it looks like I've been burned.
Just curious as to other peoples experiences of the difference between carrying boys and girls. Are girls worse to carry, or have I just been unlucky this time?

I had a girl first. I was VERY sick for about 4 months- "morning sickness?"- more like "morning, noon and night sickness"!! After that was pretty much OK.
The second time I was convinced I was having another girl- suffice to say I spent most of the first trimester with my head over the loo or a bucket! I couldn't believe it at the scan when it was a boy!!
So.... in my experience it makes no difference. I think you are probably just unlucky this time for some reason- maybe because you are more tired as you already have 2 children?
Good luck- hope you soon feel better.:pSave £12k in 2021: Jan £1834.40, Feb £1692.810 -
I have had 2 boys, first pregnancy was a dream apart from slight sickness for a few weeks, the second one......
Had bad sickness till 28 weeks (weighed less at full term than pre-pregnancy) had no appitite and had to force feed myself a bowl of cereal a day, had SPD (was in tears every day on the school run because of pain) had major hot flushes where I almost passed out, and thats just some of it.

I'm with you Becles!
First pregnancy a boy. Had sickness but was able to carry on at work. Stopped at exactly 12 weeks and felt okay until 32 weeks when I had to go on iron tablets
Second time a girl. Raging all day sickness from 6 weeks until 15 weeks. Highly emotional. On iron tablets from 15 weeks. Felt awful.
Both lovely children though!0 -

I have only had boys, and have to say that my first two pregnancies were much the same. Yeah I had MS, which lasted until 21 and 19 weeks respectively, but overall I found the pg quite a breeze.
It is still early days with this pg, (have scan on Wed, so am probably near / at end of first trimester) and in terms of MS, it has probably been much the same. I think I may be more physically sick this time, but it was 6 years ago that DS2 was born and I really can't remember that well.
I remember being tired with DS2 and I have been so tired this time round too, but is it worse ?, I can't really say.
One thing, is I am definitely 6 years older. I definitely do not have the energy that I had then. With both my boys, I worked right up until the day before they were delivered. This time, I know that I am going to be stopping before term, as I cannot honestly believe that I will have the strength to carry on till labour day.
As I obviously have no idea what I am having, I cannot really put test to the theory, but it will be interesting. Personally I do believe that girls are harder to carry (they take all the beauty for themselves), so it looks like I am in for a boy again.

I think maybe what you are going through is what it's like when you are on your third pregnancy. With my last I got all sorts of things I hadn't had with the others: it was like my body was feeling the strain!!
Having said that, I got bad morning sickness with my daughter (1st child) and nothing with the other 2 (boys). All 3 pregnancies were really different though.

My first pregnancy was a girl. Had no problems but did gain quiet a bit of weight everywhere. Second time arround was a boy and not the same. Had nausea first 3 month (no sickness though) and sciatica during second half. Didn't gain as much weight. If it wasn't for the waist size I would have worn my pre-pregnancy trousers. He was also very active. I always thought it makes a difference but reading posts above it looks like its different for everyone. Good luck, not long to go. I reckon baby will be early. :jOfficial DFW Member no:4100
