tbh here, if you can't afford to learn to drive, how are you going to afford a car?

although that's true, it makes sense to learn to drive and pass your test as a student - you can fit lessons in at all times of the day which is much easier than trying to fit them in around a full time job. although you might need some refresher lessons if you pass your test and then don't drive your own car for a few years, that's a much easier option than starting from scratch at that time.

I did an intensive course with BSM – lessons spread over two weeks. Passed first time and I think it was a great way to do it because I was driving 1-3 hours every day so there was no time to forget anything in-between.

No scrapes or accidents - I did feel a bit nervous the first few times I drove on my own but I think all new drivers feel that way.

From personal experience I would suggest you find someone who your mates, family, neighbours reccomend. Word of mouth is by far the best option, just because there's a big logo with 'AA' on it doesnt mean the instructor of that car would be suitable with you.

My instructor (I am still with him, 7 lessons done, another 5 or so to go for me) was private then moved to AA, I got him whilst private so he offers me a discount. He charges £20 p/h, I would pay £25 any day if he said, for me he is the best even though I havnt had another instructor.

btw Im waiting on my next lesson he has been fully booked for the past 6 weeks, so, no lesson for me in that time. Just find someone that your friends and family used, obviously if they reccomend them.

If you worry too much about cost then that sa dangerous route to be taking, not very long ago I done the same, ended up just calling a few mates, half of them reccomended this instructor and gave him a call, took a test drive. DONE!

Let us know how you get on!

WOW! I don't think I could be doing with that. I paid £20/hour too and went from never having driven before to passing within 3months. I had about 20hours tuition so I think I spent about 450 all told

6 weeks with no time was a bit over the top from me, he did have the odd slot for me but it wasnt good timing for me as I am a college student. When I was free which was about 4 out of the 7 days a week he couldnt do...now he is back on track.

Probably a busy intructor is a good one? Dont you think? More and mroe people with him obviously means something.

I done about 7 lessons...not looking to go over the 15 lesson mark. I think another 5 or so would do for me. I also started from scratch, didnt even know what a clutch was:confused:
