Help with Vanquis Credit Card

I applied for a Vanquis Credit card a few days ago and was told i would receive a phone call after a few days. So today I get the phone call and everything seems fine until the man asks for my bank account details... I was having a thick moment and have 'set up a direct debit' and gave him my bank details... Was this stupid?
Could this be a scam?
I spoke to a friend who has already got one of these cards and he said he didn't have to give any bank details over the phone so now I'm nervous.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thank you in advance :-):-):-)

It is standard practice for Vanquis to try and get you to set up a Direct Debit to cover the minimum monthly payment. You then pay whatever else you want by other means.

You should be more concerned if they tried to sell you PPI and you agreed.

I believe that it is normal routine for Vanquis to do that....unless someone confirm otherwise.
  • Ah! Thank you so much! I thought I was being scammed because I tried to say no about setting it up over the phone as id rather pay by phone every month but as long as Im not being scammed Im happy :-):-)
  • It'll be fine! I got my vanquis last year and they do ask for your bank details. I would be more worried if they didn't try to sell you anything during the call, I.e. ppi! You should maybe phone them to set your mind at ease (but get the number using "say no to 0870")!

Brilliant news, thank you :-) you just stopped me having a minor heart attack lol
  • I called back straight away to make sure I got a Vanquis message and have been googling frantically since i finished the call Haha
  • Lol! It'll be alright! I've had no problems atall with vanquis. I'm using them as a credit improvement tool until I can get a mainstream card!
  • Yeah I am too. Hopefully they don't give me a big limit or i don't know how I'll stop myself. Also when I applied they said it was 39% Apr and then when he rang he said it was 59%...
  • I'm the same 59%! The trick is to pay off as much of the balance ( if not all) each month and only spend what you can afford! I started off with a very small credit limit (£100) that was increased to £200 and I'm hoping for another increase soon. Good luck!

I always tell people that I don't have my card on me and will set it up online. I don't really like giving my bank info over the phone.
