Exempt from cap

Our youngest son gets DLA so I believe from what I've read that we are exempt from the benefits cap being introduced. Does this just mean that if we are entitled to more than cap limit we will continue to get that rather than it be reduced? Thank you for any replies as I'm trying to figure out how changes will affect us with the cap and UC being introduced.
Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T

You are exempt from the cap anyway as your OH works
Are you saying with a mortgage so no housing you get £500 pw in benefits in addition to your husbands very good salary?0 -

You can't be serious? FIVE HUNDRED QUID a week on top of the husband's wages? But isn't the husband off work with stress at the moment as well, so ALL income comes from benefits?0 -

Don't think so they are looking at moving to a 4 bedroom or extending their mortgage for an extension so I assume they are working?
If not then the are assuming none working in 3 years time?0 -

OP doesnt quote any figures so I am not sure where you are quoting from. But are you saying the OH gets a very good salary and on top of that the tax payer is giving away 500 quid a week ?? Equivalent to about 32K PA of normal income. Something is wrong.0 -

Op is asking about the cap being introduced soon. The cap will not pay more than £500 pw for couples/families and £350 pw for singles.
I am not saying op gets that AND wages, I am asking if that is the case, because I am puzzled by why someone would ask if not affected.
DLA means the cap doesn't apply and they get current rates, but the cap also doesn't include loads of other benefits like council tax, free school meals etc, so it's higher than the cap anyway.0 -
My husband does work full time but not on a great wage. We get what benefits the government say we are entitled to. I'm just trying to find out how the changes are going to affect us with the cap and UC introduction. We are looking into extending or moving as our youngest son is disabled and receives benefits due to that and a bedroom of his own would benefit us all. My husband was off work for several weeks but has now returned.Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Princessdon if we exempt from cap due to husband working does that mean its only households that don't work or have a disabled person in?
What about UC?Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0 -

Well then as I say if your husband gets wtc - they are exempt from the cap, as you don't claim hb (main portion of benefits) it should not ever effect you as ctc, dla and carers will not not amount to £500 pw, you are worrying unnecessarily.0 -

What about UC?
You are exempt from the cap on 2 grounds, wtc and dla.
As you are a carer under uc you will hit the none conditionality as your oh works (you won't need to seek work as a carer).
Nothing to worry about - your family is doing all they can and they won't expect more. Of course if you oh wasn't working it would be different but he is.0
