She may not have a choice if op is sanctioned and doesn't find work. It's not just up to one parent to support a family. I am assuming she didn't give birth last week of course.0 -
If the OP is sanctioned then he may want to consider closing the JSA claim and having his partner claim JSA until the end of his sanction period.0

First of all thanks for the replies. A couple of points.
My partner works 10-14 hours as she works at the local school- it fits in with the kids schooling and means no could care costs.
What do you mean when you mention OP?
I'm very new to this so please bear with me .0 -
Op - original poster ?
If given a sanction what length of time could I be looking at ?
Hopefully it won't matter as I should start with interviews this coming week and have applied for over 20 jobs already with 3-4 just waiting for more applicants before they interview.
I just want to try and cover every base.
This is very new to me as I've worked 18 years and never been out of a job before.0 -
We had a similar situation some years ago. Our daughter was seriously ill in hospital, in fact we were told she was not going to make it, and OHs company refused time off. He was told they would sack him if he didn't go back so best to resign as this would look better. He fell for it.
We couldn't get benefits straight away but some compassion was given and we only had to wait a couple of weeks (just took several to come through)
We are still paying for it now as he couldn't pay credit cards, loans etc, but we have a very fit and healthy daughter and at the end of the day family comes first, so just see this as a bonus and enjoy time with your loved ones.
Hope you get a job soon.0 -

That's why I asked if she worked because her earnings change things. What does she earn?0 -
Howie,
If you haven't burnt your bridges with the previous company, it may be worth giving them a call and seeing if they have anything. I used to work for a couple of large organisations and it was eyeopening to see people return sometimes.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
