I've never seen any offered at a discount - everywhere seems to see at the same price. Presumably they must be attractive to shoplifters too as according to you they don't sell yet PC World have no stocks. That and the fact that CurrysPCWorld recently discounted them heavily due to lack of sales.0 -

No it's a different model. It also costs quite a bit more - cheapest option would be to use an Android phone as a WiFi hotspot or if you didn't have one of those get a MiFi rather than a dongle because I doubt a 3G dongle would work on a Chromebook. But not the particular model that the OP listed?
I have looked at them but despite the nice hardware and fast boot they are just a bit to limited for me to be tempted to buy. I did try replacing the XP on an old netbook with ChromeOS but it was a bit too picky on hardware and the touchpad wouldn't work.0 -
These are quite popular as they are easy to crack & install a proper O/S on to give you a dual-boot system.
They use a Samsung Exynos 5 Dual Processor so "proper OS" is a relative term. You're not going to be installing Windows 7 on it.
At best you're going to be putting a hacked version of Ubuntu on it but being an ARM processor, you're going to need to learn how to compile applications and hardware drivers from source code.0 -

Well that's not true.0 -
went into Currys (Sheffield) today to ask about Chromebook - I've been looking for ages and no luck either but thought I'd try. Was told by one of the always-bright assistants that there were some at PC World (Meadowhall Retail Park) in stock. Wasn't convinced as I've tried here a few times. Anyway, went to see them only to be told "sorry - none in stock and they have been discontinued as no-one wants to buy them". I told him I wanted to buy one and I didn't think I was the only one but he stuck to his story. Not surprised by the customer service I suppose, shame I can only really get one from them...0

Why don't you just but one straight from google? I bought the nexus 10 from them as a Christmas present. When it was opened there was a fault I rang them on Christmas day and they sent the replacement immediately which got to us the day after boxing day. Excellent customer service, no denial about the fault, and no messing about trying to make out the fault was down to us like another fruit labelled tech company I know.0
