Poorly Cat

I have a beautiful white and apricot point domestic long hair and he spends a lot of his time grooming!

Every now and then he will make this noise that's as if he's coughing, like a wheezing noise and he will turn his head from side to side. Then he will stop and act as if nothing happened. But at that moment, when he's wheezing he looks really panicked.

I've never seen him cough up a hairball, but my partner says cats look like they're being sick when they're coughing up hairballs not coughing.

Looking on google it sounded similar to feline asthma? But how can I trust google?!

We can't afford to take our cat for a check up as it costs £30 just to have that done.

Do you think it is serious? Or shall we leave it?

But we've had him since March and he has never coughed up a furball!! Maybe he can't get it out!
  • If you cannot afford to take your cat to the vet see if there's a PDSA nearby that you can take them to

A couple of ours do this sometimes but it's different to furballs, especially the head weaving from side to side. Ours always seem fine afterwards; if I thought it was serious I'd take them to the vet. What potential allergens might be in your home? Chemicals such as household cleaners or air fresheners? Cigarette smoke? Book dust?

I've never seen a furball come out of any of my cats. They just seem to swallow them without any problem.

Contacting PDSA or RSPCA in your area for advice might be an option if you can't afford the bills and are on any suitable benefits?

I'm not on any benefits at all. Do I still get the advice?

Our flat is very damp, so maybe that is causing it? I really hope not!
  • You can call your own vet for advice; there is no charge for that.

    You have a cat.

You say you can not affor £30 for a check up and you do nto qualify for PDSA help.

I guess there is no point me asking if you got pet insurance?

If you can nto afford £30 for a check up and do not qualify for PDSA help - HOW are you going to deal with any emergency or if something serious happens to the cat?

Really sorry but yoru posts abopve really baffled me re financing your pet?
