1 out of 4 cats will not eat ANY dry food

Ok, perhaps this can be changed, perhaps someone can advise?
Out of my 4 cats, Fred is the only one that will never eaver even touch dry food - ANY dry food.
Teddy, George, Macius will eat dry and a bit of wet tinned food but Fred is just being a pain in the backside because of his NOT even wanting to try.
He was like that from a kitten so nothing new but....
If it was not for Fred, I would be buying better quality dry food for my cats but because I have to buy both dry and tinned - I have to keep on compromising and get cheap dry food as having to buy both.. sigh...
I have tried several brands of dry and nothing will interest Fred in the slightest....
Any ideas?
Or is he going to always be like that?
Hmmmm
BTW - He does not like any "treats" either. Only wet tinned/pouches.

I think some cats are just fussy, one of my female cats won't eat any wet food at all and prefers dry.0

It all depends on how hungery they are.
Once their belly buton gets close to their back bone, they will eat it.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
wanna swap?

what I find really interesting is the fact that 3 cats eat both dry and wet, Fred only wet and they are all big heatlhy boys (apart from Macius who is ermmm !!!!!! tiney and my baby)
and I give them just 1 tin of butchers between the 4 of them more less equal
fred of course finishes off what other's leave but he is having like no more than 1/3 of a tin a day (his 1/4 of a tin portion and the leftovers after others from the same 1 tin)
how is it possible?
BTW Fred also eats mushrooms, tomatoes, green peas and whatever else falls (with his help) of any higher than floor place at home s- as long as it is not dry cat food Fred will have it.. perhaps that is it...0 -
Oh now, Fred will starve rather than have any dry food....
He will nick my TUC crackers or any other biscuits - anything BUT dry cat food0 -
A 1/4 tin is 100g which is double the amount my girls get, so I'd say that was about right as they're probably almost twice the size of my cats!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Would it be possible to see if he'll eat some of the dry food soaked in water? Then you could work at serving it a little bit drier each time. I know this is time consuming and relies on you being there at mealtimes, but if he gets the taste for a food, it might work.
The only other thing I'm wondering is what shape the biscuits are? Might sound daft, but my old cat wouldn't eat the pointy Burns biscuits, but was quite happy to swallow down anything rounded :rotfl:

Yup, they are big cats my boys. Not fat but big. Teddy is close to 10kg, Fred no idea but assuming around 7.5-8, George around 7 and macis the !!!!!! sweett baby on wobbly legs probably under 3kg.
The tinns (classic) it says to feed 3/4 of a tin per cat per day. I assume they mean normal size cats not my monster boys. So that translates to 300g per day. Fred does not have this much.
BUT I just left some pasta with mushrooms unattended for 2 minutes and of course he helped himself
I know when I fed them Animonda the feeding guide was less than that of Classic but - they went off completely off Animonda and I really have no cash to waste on food they will not eat so.. They love clasic - they get classic.
Yes, I have tried mixing dry with a bit of water to soften it - Fred still would not touch it.0 -
DD had to mix wet and dry food in the bowl cos he wouldn't eat dry. Now he's on totally wet food after a bad UT infection.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Mine will eat all his wet food, and pick as his dry food as and when he wants it, as if it's a snack.
I think cats are just fussy and there's no convincing them!0 -

Crikey - we put down 8x 400g tins between 9 cats, so give or take 350g each per day and they still reckon they're starving. We don't keep dried food down but occasionally give them Dreamies which they all love, plus they love things like chips, crisps, curry, pizza crusts, mixed veg. I think mine are just plain greedy although none of them are overweight."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000
