Kebab shops - advice

What is the least processed meat to be found in kebab shops? I'm guessing avoid all burgers and doner kebabs, only buy lamb or chicken shish (the skewered diced chunks of meat). Of course it would be good to not eat in them at all, but I found myself hungry at midnight last night after going out, you know how it is. Just want to know what not to buy.

I would stick to chicken as red meat especially processed red meat has strong links and patterns to cancer and heart diseaseThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

That's ridiculous, you're basically saying never eat red meat.0

Nothing wrong with the occasional shish kebab (lamb or chicken) assuming you have a decent kebab shop near you. Mine used to do chicken wings and rice. A lamb shish is hardly processed at all, just chunks of grilled meat, served with bread and salad. That's probably one of the healthiest takeaways you can have. Just avoid chips and watch out for the sauces.NSD May 1/150 -
Nothing wrong with a good doner either, especially after a night out on the sauce. Don't think the occasional one would do much harm4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

On the contrary, kebab meat has one of the worst reputations of any in the 'fast food' business.

Well I can honestly say I've never felt ill after one. Although I do tend to stick to the same shop. So I'll rephrase, An occasional doner after a skinful has done me no harm4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
I think you will find there is an internal human safeguard involved here. The only time you will ever think a Kebab shop is a good place to eat is when your body is so overloaded with alcohol that the salmonella in a pitta is the least of your problems!0

I had trout and veg in a pub and ended up in hospital in an isolation room for a week and was on a drip for several days. :eek:0

Well after horse meat in burgers you never know what your eating in anything never mind kebabs0

Have a lamb shish - lamb is not normally, factory farmed, it grazes pasture.
We eat lamb shish kebabs rolled in flatbread quite often. Or if we eat in then it's served with rice instead of bread We live in a mostly Kurdish area of North London which has excellent charcoal grills every way you turn.
I don't think there is anything unhealthy about this - half your plate is salad and the lamb they used, I can see them prepare and marinate it.
But I would never eat a doner, though.Grocery Challenge - February £1000
