Here in Derbyshire we have this: http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/community/trusted_trader/default.asp The Trading Standards Officer checks into your background and you have to show proof of qualifications. Do they run something like this in your area?

There is a scheme I know of in another city. There is a double glazing/window company listed, and they tell every one about this. The elderley population are the typical core market for them. What they do not say is they are taking advantage of these people by overcharging them. Yes the product, the service and installation are good. But the prices are extortionate - this appears to not be a part of the scheme.

Put another way - if a company can get onto such a scheme it can be a marketing opportunity to jack up their prices.

The Trading Standards dept will ensure they are complying with the law and have a proper complaints proecdure - they do not regulate price and the consumer should do their own research.

the scheme assures you quality service - not the cheapest price.
