Sorry not sure what you mean by software. I have a Western Digitial book connected by USB to hard drive. Don't remember using any specific software to run it.0

how do you backup, what do you do to initiate the process, do you copy in explorer, run a program, what type of backup files does it create? http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/search/1/a_id/3740 ?!!

I use smartware as in the link you attached. To initiate I open wd on computer and select backup. I do exit after completion because I find when left on in the background it slows computer down.0

ram upgrade 1GB or more should make a big difference.!!
