Today I have been very brave and tackled the mess of paperwork that's been accumulating over the two months since I moved. I confess this was mostly because I knew I needed to pay my credit card bill and couldn't find it :o but the main thing is it's done and my paper files are now back under control. The same can't be said for all the other things I was meant to get done this weekend but hey ho.

I am over budget :o as I've been buying things for the house. I've pulled some money from the savings pot to cover it so I am still well in credit, but it's amazing how fast my attitude has changed - now I am uncomfortable at having less in savings than I was in debt last year! I have my holiday to pay for over the summer but after that there will be more money free for house things and to top up savings again - and fortunately, (cross fingers and touch wood) for now there isn't anything too urgent.

I've now got all my bills sorted except for the electricity - NP0wer are proving to be a right PITA and I keep putting off ringing them in the evening. I will try and get that done this week. I've budgeted for their estimate and it should be rather lower so hopefully will be OK. I also got my water bill reduced after the meter has been put in - already worth doing, as it's gone down from £33 to £21 a month. My grocery bills have been horrendous  :o as I've just been so disorganised with trying to get other things done... but hopefully that will calm down now too.

So, YNAB is up to date and says my Age of Money is 41 days, my files are all organised again... hopefully things will feel a bit more under control from here!

Yes! Rebel! See if any of us manage to post after midnight! :rotfl:

Well, yes. And in a way I did as that's kind of what the savings pot was for. I just don't like having to use it. :D
I would have budgeted more spare for the move if I'd thought it was going to happen so soon but of course these things aren't entirely predictable. Also, I could be more patient and do things month by month but there are some things that need doing in order to be able to do others... so I decided to just get on with it.

Unfortunately I'm running out of energy suppliers to never use again :( so I think I'm going to have to go round the dreadful ones from the top!

Doesn't something turn into a Gremlin if you post after midnight?

What ones have you had trouble with? I may change at some point and I always like anecdotes...

  • Did someone say PARTY!! I think I've come back just in time. School night though tut tut.

Your new home sounds lovely, it does take some time to sort things out doesn't it. My mum keeps joking about how many times I get my paperwork file and bullet journal out but it makes me happy.

We too have noticed how quieter it is here. Isn't it lovely hearing the birds in the morning. You'd think I would have moved miles not just to the other side of town.

Well I will be back on Thursday armed with goodies for the P-A-R-T-Y. Need to get MT back to join us.

    Take care.

    It's not a school night for me...I don't work Fridays! :D:D

Absolutely right there with you on not liking using savings for stuff. It's currently being raided for the kitchen and I'm not even too keen on that! :rotfl: We decided a few years ago to start popping £25 a month into a savings account for "household" stuff - it pays the contents insurance when that's renewed, but also covers odds and ends of small spending, things like the Iron needing replaced, or water filter cartridges being bought. Ongoing, once you've got the big stuff sorted, it might help cashflow on a monthly basis and stop you feeling that you'r raiding the "wrong kind of savings" for housey stuff?

Oops. *creeps in with head hung low in shame* :(:o

I'm very sorry people. Last week got complicated for reasons I won't go into but I should have thought to postpone after making an announcement.

A year... a whole year completely DF. How fast it has gone. And how fast my mindset has changed. I thought it would take me a while to get used to the idea and that I would continue scrimping, but I actually feel so long as what I spend is justified in terms of my own priorities that's OK. I am finding other things to do with the energy that used to go into juggling money.

I feel like I should think of a goal for another years' time, but I'm not quite clear yet on what it would be. Time for some thinking.
