Sharp practice from ONE.COM

Just a bit of a warning to others - be advised that buying from ONE.COM can impact the wallet of the slightly careless...
I registered a domain with hosting with them for my school's PTA, but after about a year, the website was abandoned (I don't think it was the first to suffer this fate!). When I got the message telling me that the domain was up for renewal, I foolishly assumed that (like ALL the other domain registrars I've dealt with) if I just didn't pay, then the registration would lapse.
However, a few weeks later, an email arrived saying that my subscription had been automatically renewed "for my convenience" and an extra £10 admin fee had been added to the bill.
I felt a bit disgruntled, but suspected that if I'd taken the time to read the first email, it would been clear. I paid the bill (on 27th December) and thought I'd washed my hands of it.
But today (18th Jan) a letter arrived from some solicitors claiming to represent the debt collection agency representing ONE.COM. It stated that I still owed money and was now incurring fees for their services)!
It transpired that ONE.COM waited until the 10th Jan to notify the debt collectors that the debt was settled. The letter that I received today was dated 9th Jan (no postmark, though). Of course the agency don't work extended hours and operate on a soft-premium rate phone number...
Other than posting this as a warning to others, should I just cough up? The amount of money is probably not worth fighting over, but I just don't want to encourage them!
