package flight delay

My friend and I booked a cruise on P&O cruise ship Azura around the caribbean departing from Barbados using Thomas Cook cruise specialists. When we printed off our etickets we were due to depart from Birmingham to Barbados at 9.32am on Friday 7th jan 2011 on a Thomson Charter aircraft. We were due to arrive in Barbados at 14.15 local time. On the morning of the scheduled departure we were informed that due to aircraft technical problems the inbound plane was delayed and our scheduled departure was going to be about 7pm. The flight was further delayed with a new time being given as 7.50pm. Eventually the aircraft departed at 10.49pm according to Flight Stats and arrived in Barbados at 2.28am local time some 12 hrs later than our original scheduled arrival time. This meant that we missed our first day in Barbados and after not boarding the cruise ship until about 4.30am we were very tired for our planned 9am trip around Barbados and this spoiled our enjoyment.

I have sent off a claim to compensation to Thomas Cook as they were the travel agents who sold me the package. Was this correct or should it be P&O who may well have arranged the charter aircraft, or Thomson whose aircraft it was.

    If the flight had a TOM flight number then they were the operating air carrier and you should claim from them.

    Thanks richard, I was unsure as it was a package holiday so it will be interesting to see if Thomas Cook reply and if they do what they say.
