Best Price for Silver Scam, anyone?

I feel like a complete idiot. I sent some old silver jewellery to an on-line company that purchases at scrap prices and they haven't paid me. The pack was sent on the 21 December. Two weeks later I still hadn't heard so contacted them, and they assured me they'd be making an immediate payment. I was expecting a little more than the £10 they offered but I didn't want to be bothered with getting it all back and starting again. The payment hasn't been made - they requested my bank details to make a direct payment. I have subsequently tried to call them, to no avail - the number doesn't work, neither does their email. I am cross that they appear to have duped me and I have no recourse. Any advice?

  • Hi,

I too have sent some old silver to these con men just over a week ago. They showed my parcel as being received and being processed. I called to check what was happening and got someone to answer straight away who said they had a back log but they should be in touch by the weekend. Since then their voice mail has been on and, like you say, their email address is invalid. I aren't too bothered about the stuff as it wasn't worth much but it's the principle!!

I work for a company that have access to companies house data and I have done some research and the registered company number at the bottom of their website is linked to a company in London who know nothing of them! Definite scammers!! There is not much about them that I can find on the Internet but if I can get a name or different phone number my husband is a policeman and will be able to start a trace.

Have you heard anything more off them?
  • Presumably, the address you sent the silver will turn out to be just a mail drop somewhere.

Thanks for your replies - the address at the bottom of the ad on the internet is a PO Box number - although it is based in Manchester as you state, I also noticed that they are linked to some sort of association in London - which is clearly a con too. I have lodged a complaint to the trading standards people today and given them as many details as possible. However, if they are not traceable then what are the chances of trading standards getting involved? Maxstan, I hope your husband catches up with them - what a load of disingenuous hoodlams! How dare they prey off people like that. The problem is, they appear to be a proper organisation and I have used other genuine companies three or four times, so there is no way of knowing really. I gave them my bank details too, for the payment. Bit worried about that - I dont think they can do much with them. I will let you know if I hear anything further.
  • They got me as well, someone should you this service again and inform the police and post office and catch them when they collect the package from the sorting office
  • I think theyve got me too! I sent them my silver and haven't heard anything about it since. I tried emailing through their website and no reply, so i tried the email address and it bounced back. Im really annoyed as i was going to save the money to put towards our first house. Im so upset at this scam and myself for being fooled by it.
  • I dont want to be hasty in case they are legit. However i ahve sent off £80 quid of silver and i'm hoping to get a reply. I havent been able to get through to their contacts but hopefully it will work out if we give them time? what are people thinking its only been a week...
