Vodaphone Contract

My son took a phone on contract from Vodaphone with a 2 year term. About 10 months into the contract they put the rental up by £1.55 per month. In the meantime my son has lost his job and can't afford to pay for the phone. They are looking £500 for him to get out of the contract. He has no money. Is there any way out of this. Surely they have broken the contract with him by increasing his rental. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can he 'downsize' his contract and reduce the amount of free minutes/texts ? If he sells the phone and does that, would it nullify the cost of terminating the contract?0 -
Your Son did not sign a fixed rate contract, he agreed a contract which could increase in line with RPI.
Even if your Son has lost his job, it is still a valid contract.
If your Son has a good phone, consider selling the phone and putting the money towards paying off part of the £500.00. If your Sons knows anyone willing to take over the contract and the repayments, a change of contract ownership would be another option. Your Son would need to contact Customer Services to authorise the change of ownership and the new owner would need to accept the contract, subject to the usual credit check.0 -

Vodafone to raise pay monthly prices
How to escape Vodafone price rises
Anyway, it's too late now as customers have only 1 month to challenge the price rise if they think it's far too high.0 -
A valuable lesson though, why take on such an expensive commitment when employment loss can put him a risk with the Credit Reference Agencies? You may not even be able to downgrade, but it is worth enquiring.0

Very unlikely, the Your Plan contract Vodafone have used for a few years do not allow any downgrade until the minimum term is met.0 -

Hi Francophile,
I can appreciate the concerns that you and your son have here.
Should he like any assistance with managing this situation he's welcome to email me with his details via the link in our profile here?
All he need to do is copy and paste the link into his web browser and it will take him to the Contact us form on our website.
To ensure that it reaches me could he also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line and once our automated reply arrives could you update the thread with his email reference number and I'll get back to him as soon as possible?
Thanks,
Lee
