Well, for the first time in 12 years I am no longer in an expensive and lengthy mobile phone contract!
Finished the minimum term of my iphone 4 deal with Orange @ £36 pcm (+ £12 insurance) and have just ported my number over to Virgin for their £12 a month, 30 day rolling contract sim, and it feels GREAT!
And in true MSE fashion, I am putting the difference in to overpaying my mortgage! J

I moved from a £40 a month contract to a £5.50 sim only one as I like my phone
Feels nice, you don't even notice £5.50 but £40 sure does make a dent!

I'm just toying with the idea of leaving Orange after over 15 years and going with the same Virgin offer. I think the only thing that worries me slightly is that they may end the offer and force prices up, considering it's only a 30 day rolling contract.0

even if it does go up, I can't see it sky rocketting to the same level as Orange prices!0

The more I read on this section of the forum, the more I feel like doing the same instead of fixing back into another contract as i'd planned.Roll on DFD, final payment 1st October 2017 :beer:0 -
tesco use the O2 network and virgin use the t-mobile/orange network looking at the coverage detailsRoll on DFD, final payment 1st October 2017 :beer:0

I've got to say I love the freedom if being on sim only - I've just reduced my phone bill from £16 to £8.86 by locking into tmobile for 12 months (600 mins, 500 texts and unlimited Internet)
Enjoy OPUsing my phone to post - apologies in advance for any typos0 -

If you can afford it, put the monthly saving on deposit. Ignoring the Insurance - and see if you can find a cheaper one there too - you will have £288 after a year (plus interest) and nearly £600 after 2 years. Good replacement phone or holiday fund.0
