How do we go about releasing funds from my deceased mother's account to pay for funeral as we do not have the £5K quoted by funeral director but her estate does?
Thanks

You ask the funeral directors to send the invoice to the bank and the bank will send a cheque direct to them.0

My father passed away in October. We informed Nationwide of the death and his accounts were frozen. After the funeral, I took the funeral director's invoice into branch with a completed form they had sent to me. A cheque was then issued immediately over the counter. This was good as there was a discount for early settlement.0

Exactly what I was going to say. My mum's funeral last year cost £2,6000 -
Another one astounded at that price!
Banks will usually settle the funeral bill from the frozen funds.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Depends what they are getting. I went to a friend's funeral a few years ago - we toasted her in champagne, then all enjoyed a very good meal (it was what she wanted!)0

But that would not be an automatic payout from the estate .
That would probably require approval of the executor and the residual benificiaries if not in the will in a suitable form.0 -
My dad's funeral cost just over £3,500. This included everything "hygienic" that the undertakers do, Chapel of Rest, coffin, flowers, printed Order of Service, notices in the local paper etc. We had two limousines plus hearse. The church fees were also included as were burial charges.
We had a wake at the local pub which my dad frequented. We catered for 100 as he was a very popular guy. There were over 140 people in church and many of them did come to the "do" afterwards. The food was all included in the Funeral Director's charges. My brother and I put £250 behind the bar so that everyone could have a drink on us.
We used a local firm with an excellent reputation and they were absolutely marvellous and made everything as easy as possible for us. We felt that the whole funeral was a fitting tribute to a wonderful father who we still miss so much.0 -
We have been quoted £3347 for my father in law funeral as follows:
Limousine £1885
Church £332
Crematory fee £540
Printed Service Sheet £190
Ashes & Cemetry fee £250
Notice in local paper £75
Acknowledgement if Required £75
Seems a bit dear to me. Any thoughts as to whether this is the case?0 -
