Incomplete name on credi card

My son has a new credit card account. The name embossed on his credit card is truncated - it misses the last 2 letters of his surname off. The correspondence from the bank appears to be in the correct name, so I assume that the account name is correct, and this may be an issue that his name is too long for the card.
What do MoneySavers think about this? I am a little uneasy either
Thanks all
What do MoneySavers think about this? I am a little uneasy either
- that the account name is actually incorrect; or
- that the incomplete name on the card could cause problems further down the line.
Thanks all

Have you spoken to the credit card company about it?
I can't see how it will make any difference anyway.0 -
I wouldn't worry about it. Very few traders actually read the name anyway leaving it up to the chip and pin device to authenticate the transaction.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Of course, high-street traders don't care. However, when buying online you have to fill-in the name "as shown on the card" and this may cause problems.I wouldn't worry about it. How? No protocol allows for names to be checked - next time they ask for this put an abbreviation or a miss spelling of your name and the payment still goes throughOf course, high-street traders don't care. Given its your sons card, he should check if he is concerned with the card issuer.
Does he have a particularly long name? My mother in law has an additional card on our account and her name is truncated as it is too long to fit but it is a common issue for people of latin descent and so there is a standard way of abbreviating it (though trying to explain that to a British call centre agent was more tricky)0 -
The card machine/computer doesn't use any letters...it's all numbers only. Get the letters in your street address or post code wrong/transposed and the transaction goes through however get the numbers in the address or post code wrong and it may fail depending on the authentication standard the trader uses.Of course, high-street traders don't care. Don't know, but I do remember having problems sometimes when putting my surname instead of the full name on the card. It might have been just a coincidence though as usually I just give my surname without any problems.InsideInsurance wrote: »How? I also think it could cause problems with Verified by Visa, it's a while since I set anything up so I'm not sure whether it uses your name as held by the card issuer or as you first enter it, but it would need to match for it to work.0 -
My daughter had a cashpoint card issued to her with her name spelt wrongly, although the name on her account was correct. We went back to the bank and arranged for a new card with the correct name to be issued. I'd try to get it corrected, just to avoid any possible confusion later on.0
