The ones we have a problem with are from about 3 doors down on the other side of the road. They are constantly playing on our driveway for some reason??!! The entrance to our drive is on a bend in the road behind a wall, so is completely blind. I am petrified that one day I will swing my car on to the drive & knock one of them over. I have tried explaining to them that it's dangerous, that I can't see them & even tried the "shouting loud to make them too scared to do it again" technique, but that didn't work either. If it carries on this summer I will have to go have a word with their parents, but that makes me feel like a moaning old witch as well. No win situation.
You don't sound like a moaning old witch to me. You sound like a sensible, well balanced person who doesn't want the guilt of killing a child on her conscience. They are on your property without your permission: you are quite within your rights to tell them to get off and if they do it again to march round to their parents and lodge a formal complaint! Hope their parents see it your way, I know not all parents are as evil as I am, I'd have Words to say if mine were causing a nuisance on someone else's drive - or even in OUR drive!

We have a slightly similar problem in that kids are always running down our drive and through the garden , then getting through a hole in the hedge at the bottom of our garden to get onto the sports field behind , using us as a short cut

There was a fence behind the hedge , but they've broken it and made the hole in the hedge bigger. My OH has tried blocking the hole , but that didn't stop them and he's had words with them , but they don't give a monkeys. It's not just us , both my neighbours have problems too . I heard one neighbour shouting at them the other day and the other one says he's having cctv installed. I've actually bought a cctv system , but haven't installed it yet , but the other week when I saw a lad in my back garden I took some still photos of him and when he saw me he just strolled out of the garden and wagged his finger at me

We're going to have a gate put between the garage and the house wall , so hopefully that should stop them

Anyone know of any machine guns on special offer? Only joking of course

when i was small we had an awful neighbour who used to complain to mym um that we were playing too loudly...we were always pretty scared of her and indeed called her 'the witch' next door..but she was very unreasonable..we always made sure our balls didnt go anywhere near the fence to her garden because we were too scared to ask permission to get it back..the worst thing wa she had a horrible yappy dog which she would leave outside to howl and bark all day, yet she had the cheek to complain at the noise of us playing..my mum and her had many words over this, one time resulting in her punching my mum straight in the face..the police were called but couldnt do much about it...i was so glad when we moved and had nice friendly neighbours

ive been reading this thread and as im a mum of a 10 yr old i can understand some of the problems.. ive got fantastic neighbours either side of me balls going over no probs etc... but as for the lady who is frightened that one day she might hurt one of the kids on her drive , well mabey you should pretend you cant see them when you get home and stop just short of them and frighten them into realising that it can happen for real.. if not tell the parents that the kids are putting themselves at risk and that if they wont do anything abt it then you cant be held responsable them if you or anyone visiting you hits them..

the other lady who has the kids going through the fence... put some barbed wire in there but not so its visable straight away.. You are after all just securing your property .. also put some on the top of your new gate so the little gits dont climb over it when you it installed.. and if they do and damage it this is classed as criminal damage so you could in fact call in the police... mabey even for a chat .. sometimes the sight of a police car outside someones house might give the little gits a fright
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.

I've thought about barbed wire , but i'm just a bit worried about our cats getting hurt on it

Until we get the gate fitted , i've started putting the 2 bins side by side in the gap , so it's blocked , but heard them running down our drive yesterday evening and the beggars had just knocked one of the bins over

I doubt if the sight of a police car would have any effect as apparently there was one here the day before yesterday as a house 3 doors away from me had been burgled during the day and my husband has called the police about the problems we've been having a while ago. Our street was actually featured on the front page of the local free paper a few months ago about the problems the police had been having with kids , but things obviously haven't improved since then.

be careful with barbed wire etc cos if the little devils injur themselves on it you can bet they will call the cops on you.. make it something like a rose bush or a nice crop of nettles or even better blackberry bushes.. ;-)

we had the kids from hell next door, four boys between the ages of 10 and 16 whose mother had no control over them . It wasn't just ordinary balls coming over our fence, they were cricket balls a lot of the time. I was terrified of letting my kids out to play in the garden.

I stopped letting them having the balls back, becusue I was sick of answering the door every 5 minutes.

The solution ? We moved house

I was advised me to put metal carpet grips just on the inside of our fence, with spikes going down, and just in the position of where there hands will be once they try to enter your property! Once there little fingers grab to climb over the fence, they'll soon know about it. As it's on your property and they are tresspassing it should be ok, also it won't hurt any cats.

I would check this out with the police: you may need to have a warning sign up otherwise my understanding is that you can be sued for damages even though they are trespassing on your property. I know we've been advised that when the windows at church are broken we must get them boarded up immediately otherwise if the little blighters come back and try to climb through broken window we are responsible if they hurt themselves.

Plus won't they get wise and start wearing tough gloves?
