 My local one take credit cards, almost sure Dad used Visa last time I was there. Take debit cards definately. Possibly £5 limit  .

They take cash and debit cards, but i went once (one in Plymouth) and when i went to my purse, realised i didnt have my debit card (the bank never sent me a new one after my purse was stolen) and they wouldnt take my credit card, i had spent about £25. i was so embarrased, but luckily someone i knew was in the same shop (i was so lucky, i dont know many people!!) and they offered to pay for my shopping until i could get the cash for them, to save me having to put everything back, and come back later. It would be great if they have changed their policy on credit cards tho - although i supose i dont need another shop that i can spend in!!!

There are some things that are good but you can't go there and just do your normal shop (for me anyway) since there are also a few things they don't have. I really really rate their cheese, chocolate, tinned tomatos and dishwasher tablets all of which are at least as good as premium brands in other supermarkets. Their personal care range is also good (soap, bath stuff, moisturiser, toilet roll etc) and is often cheaper than other places. I have no problem with their flour, bread, orange juice, yoghurt, milk, tinned fruit etc - all are much of a muchness with Tesco etc both brand and pricewise. I do think their veg might go off a bit faster but their fruit is very good and often lower priced for interesting fruit than tesco etc so worth a go. I tend to go in there every couple of months and stock up on the things I particularly like. Don't think I've ever really hated anything I bought there but then I don't eat meat and don't buy much processed food. Don't know how anyone could shop only there though. Agree with other poster too that you don't spend as much because there isn't so much temptation - a Good Thing mid-month :) I'd say it's worth trying in case there's stuff you'd like but not worth going to if it's a real pain...

I forgot actually, I asked someone who used to work there about the fruit and veg, she said it's usually down to how it's put out. Noones constantly watching rotation etc, they are expected to get everything out so fast they rarely have the chance to. Sometimes it's great but she said some ends up not being moved round and they waste loads because of that.
One day I might be more organised...........

We have a lidl about five mins walk from us, so when we moved here last year, decided to try it. I found the meat was quite nice and the cheese was ok. I agree that the toiletries are quite good value. I tried their liquid detergent too and that worked quite well - it was a huge 3lt bottle too. I did find though that I couldn't get all the things I needed and some of the stuff I've found cheaper at asda or tesco. I find it ok if I need to get a few bits and bobs, but not for a weekly shop.

i'm surprised about the sausages!! OH and i have recently started buying pork and apple sausages in lidl and they are 70% pork or over (i'm not sure exactly how much but i know it's over 70 as i remember scanning the shelves for anything better, and i wouldnt buy anything much lower than that) for £1.79 and they are delish!! they stay nice and big and dont shrink like the adsa ones always seem to. taste really rich but not fatty.

Regarding fruit and veg, it does spoil quickly but as far as i understand it's a good sign as fruit and veg which lasts ages has obvioulsy had some sort of preservative/chemical messing to make them last longer.
I also heard on this site somewhere i think that the bananas go off quickly as they r frozen in shipping and it reduces their lifespan (still better than pumped with chemicals and vacuum packed in plastic IMO)

A lot of the stuff in lidl i wouldnt buy still, and on my first few visits it was always thought of as a shop for cheap alcohol and drinks but thats about it. but after having a closer look, and becoming more used to the layout and products, it's pretty easy to find the products which are/aren't worth looking at.

found the whole chickens and turkey steaks very good value and good quality too. again, no shrinking like the other shop brands.

Perhaps your store is just not a very good one? i have heard about others' stores which are much better than mine, but mine is good none the less.

    just my two cents xx

Lidls is ok, as said you could've live off shopping there alone but I find the frozen stuff is pretty good and their carrier bag policy leaves Tesco red-faced.

Also their range of fruit juices is pretty good, they're great quality and the prices are as good as other peoples value ranges.

There is a Lidl not too far away, but don't know where the nearest Aldi is.

I don't think they are much cop either.

I go about once a month for 24 litres of UHT skimmed milk (UHT skimmed is thicker than fresh, dieting got me onto skimmed). I have tried EVERY brand but we as a family all like their plastic toppers on their milk cartons.

I also buy my dishwasher salt in there, not because of price but because its in a box with a nice spout, so its much easier to fill than from a bag. I'm pretty sure they are the only people who do dishwasher salt in a box.

I also buy their dishwasher finish, because it is cheap. I use the expensive Quantrum tablets & you're not susposed to need finish with that as its built in. But I still like to add it, so I put that in because even if its not all that it doesn't really matter because of the Quantrum.

The forth item I buy in their are part-baked wholemeal rolls, I like to get the part-baked rolls for lunch boxs, that way I cook them at night & they are fresh for the lunches. If I use ready baked bread, its been cooked from the morning. Lidl seem to be the only place that do wholemeal small bread rolls, can get white everywhere but not wholemeal.

So I go in once a month & get a couple of crates of milk, a box of dishwasher salt & a bottle of finish and I buy EVERY bag of part-baked wholemeal roll packs they have. So I have a very odd shopping trolly.

I wouldn't dream of getting their meat, deli or frozem or fresh foods, doesn't look all that:eek: . I often grab some fresh fruit, salad or veg if I need something & I'm in there getting my other bits, always been ok.

Waitrose is not nearly as expensive as many people seem to think & their cooked chickens are without doubt the BEST, had one tonight:D , they do seem to be smaller than Asdas, Tescos or Sainsburys though:rolleyes:
Their bread is also lovely, I love their brown & white french sticks & their walnut rolls mmmmmmmmm......

I dont buy a lot in lidls either, but there are a few things when I go I always buy

    thier cottage cheese is fine
thier yoghurt & milk is fine
I think mr t is cheaper for cheese cos theres always some sort of offer on
I always buy thier chorizos- at 1.69 massively cheaper than anywhere esle & good too
cooked ham if im in the mood
juices- oyu get a litre carton for the same price as a tesco one
    taco shells are good
oh is using "Pool" shaving foam says its good
bars of choc with chopped hazlenuts is v good as well

We did try to do a weekly shop there once but the chicken thighs were off, and the veg selection was poor. Do check the "half price" ness of thier offers, iceberg lettuce was "half price" at 50p a while back-even waitrose werent charging a quid for icebergs then and as a result i dont reckon much oif thier "offers" although a lot of the stuff is british in the summer, i do support that.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I could'nt do a monthly shop in either Aldi's or Lidl's but find the quality of frozen fish very good, Extra Virgin Olive oil is cheap , Aldis often get hand made pasta in (so much better than that mass produced stuff) and their wine offers are normally pretty good (work with someone who's a wine freak and he often points out good wines at a few pound cheaper than elsewhere)

the place I did find tatty and with nothing I would buy was Netto's in canterbury (never been to another so maybe a one off) which was dark and dirty and could only be reached by going down an alley that was used as an unofficial toilet overnight !!
