Cd player not working - had a power cut a short while ago - probably the cause, was working fine before that - will write to supplier because power cuts can affect hardware.

Maybe worth trying a repair tool http://www.majorgeeks.com/download7272.html?2013-01-12

I bought a similar one last week.
Windows is unable to find a driver. (the seller noted this in the instructions)
Do you have access to a computer with a working cd drive & usb port. And a memory stick you can use/borrow?
If so the CD will probably have several drivers on it. Copy the file you need onto the stick. Transfer it to your computer and run the program. Job done.
At least that's all I did with mine. It's an unbranded adaptor but installation is probably similar.0 -
Hi coupon man - no I only have this computer to work with - oh just thought - I have an old modem with a cd drive and usb - I could get the link from that computer perhaps. My daughter has a memory stick - now then perhaps that will work. What a good idea - will have to wait until my daugter comes home later - knowing my luck her memory stick will be full of all her personal stuff and I will have to go out and buy one.0

The driver linked to on that page looks like the standard fare to me:IS_AP_STA_RT2870_D-3.2.9.0_VA-3.2.9.0_W7-3.2.9.0_RU-4.1.7.0_AU-4.1.3.0_042412_1.5.19.0WP_FreeIS_STA_.exe
It is a little out of date though - the latest version is currently 3.2.11.0.0 -

I wanted to install the driver on my netbook so easiest way for me was to copy it onto a memory stick. It's only about 29MB.
Given how easy it was I thought it would also be simple for the op.0 -

Based on my (limited) experience the file would only be very small & not take up much room on a memory stick, unless it's a really old one.
If you don't have access to another computer would your daughter be able to help? Perhaps one of her friends would be able to copy the file if she took the disc with her. It would only take about a minute to do.0
