Moving to Primus from BT line/Orange BB

We're currently with BT line rental and Orange broadband.

I have today started the process of switching both LR and BB to Primus as it works out at about half the price.

I gave Primus my BT line phone number and requested the switch. I tried to give Primus my Orange MAC only to be told they didn't need it.

Primus said that when I switch to them the Orange BB will automatically be disconnected but that If I really want to I can cancel the Orange BB myself for the date Primus say they will take over the line to ensure it gets cancelled.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

What was the point in getting a MAC code if Primus don't need it?

If you are on an old Orange LLU line, then the MAC may not be needed for that reason.
Yes, you do need to cancel Orange and give the required notice (normally 30 days), once Prmus have confirmed the switch date. Disconnection will otherwise not cancel your contract and you'll continue to be billed by Orange.
Don't ever trust a third party (especially once with such minimal CD as Primus) to do something like this.

    Thankyou macman

We've been with Orange since 2006 but don't know if its an old LLU line or not.

I will just phone Orange to cancel it myself.

Are you transferring your phone number to Primus? If yes then be careful that they're not trying to put this through as a new line request and new number.

    Hi Bod1467

Yes we're transferring the number to Primus.

Should I expect a "sorry you're leaving" type of letter from BT when Primus start the process?

Probably. Or maybe an email if they have one for you.

Just noticed from your OP that the LR is with BT. This means you were NOT on Orange LLU else your LR would have been with Orange too. Unless Primus are putting you on LLU (I'm not sure Primus even offer this?) then they SHOULD have accepted and used the MAC you provided ... this is used to allow seamless transfers between providers that use the BT systems.

No we've always been with BT for LR. Orange didn't offer LR when we got our broadband back in 2006.
