How do I post a photo/image on MSE?

I have a Flickr account but do not wish to use that, so how do I post an image on MSE?
I would of course downsize it, so that the file size is not too large, and I would use JPG format.

Sqish it. You can also choose resize option depending on where/how you want to post it.
